Autumn Science

Color Change Sequence:
Laminate or cover several leaves of different color
with contact paper. Let kids sort, count and classify.

Egg Experiment:
Every first day of fall you can get an egg into a standing position.
Go outside and try! It will take a few tries but it does work.

Sensory

Add many different leaves from several trees.

Add nuts from different trees.

Autumn Math

Weigh different nuts with a scale.

Cut out pairs of leaf shapes from poster board.
Have children match the shapes. You can also make
the leaf shapes in matching colors for younger children.

Dramatic Play

Set up a football area with props.
Add football gear including balls, helmets and jerseys.
Also add cheerleader uniforms and pom poms.

Make a winter sale at pretend store with props.
Add winter clothing such as, sweaters, scarves,
coats, ski suits, gloves, etc...
Also add cash register, play money, wallets and purses.

Arts & Crafts

Leaf People:
Choose a leaf to be the "body".
Glue the leaf onto construction paper.
Add arms, legs, head, etc. with bright markers.

Marble Leaves:
Cut a large leaf out. Put it in a shallow pan.
Use 3 colors of paint: yellow, orange, and red.
Dip marbles in one color one at a time.
Roll marbles around the pan by tilting gently. Switch colors.

Dried Leaf Art:
Provide a large letter or number shape cut from colored
construction paper. Set out bowls of crumpled dried fall leaves.
Have the children brush glue on their shapes and then sprinkle with the dried leaves.

Autumn Circle Games

Bean Bag Toss:
Cut large leaf shapes out of a large cardboard box.
Have kids try throwing bean bags through the holes.

Leaf Hide and Seek:
Have all the children hide their eyes while you "hide" a leaf.
Once they spot it they should sit back down in their spot without telling where it is.
The first one to sit down will get to hide the leaf next.

I Spy A Leaf:
Place leaf shapes throughout the room in primary colors.
Each child gets a chance to find a leaf and tell the color.

Autum Cooking Activity

Apple Salad:
6 medium apples
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup white grape juice

Chop apples. Mix well withh other ingredients.
