The Hike at Horsetooth Mountain
Our first adventure was the hike at Horsetooth Mountain. It lies south of Ft. Collins in the Roosevelt National Forest and is a scenic drive past the Horsetooth Resrvoir and into the foothills of the Rockies.

Horseshoe Mountain is part of the Colorado State Parks system and a cool place to take a hike in the foothills. It reminded me of some of the mountains in southern California near San Diego. Brown and brushy with lots of shale intermingled with some greenery as well but not representative of the higher mountains deeper in the Rockies.

We all began the hike and stumbled across a family of deer shading themselves on this hot July afternoon. We got a few shots but not too, too close.
Well, I got pretty close...

And, again, a real nice portrait of the three of us
Then as we ascended further into the hill, my hiking party had a mutiny. Katryn and my folks had gone far enough. I looked at Christian and said "you want to go all the way to the top?"
He agreed and we made it. There were some cool shots taken along the way.

And finally, the view from the top of our first conquered mountain.

(another look...)
(really, I'd just call it a hill, but don't tell Christian!!!)
