We first entered the park at the Kawuneeche entrance near Grand Lake.
In the rain, we passed along Green Mountain and some very lush woodland ranges along the Colorado River.
It was along this stretch that my mother told us the story of the Colorado State student who was killed by a mother moose when she mistakenly stumbled across the moose's baby while jogging. At that moment, we spotted a mother moose and her calf on the side of the road. I jumped out of the car to get a picture and my poor daughter, Katryn went into hysterics.
Yeah, it was kind of funny, but she was truly scared for me. This is the best picture I could get of the mom.
Past Timber Creek we ascended into higher elevations and some of our first twisty mountain roads which would end at
Fairview Curve. These are some of our first glimpses from the road of the Rocky Mountains.
