About Supercar

Once upon 1995, in
the great Aomori prefecture, a young bassist and singer named Miki (then
only 16) put a "musicians wanted" add in her local newspaper.
Junji (18) responded and asked long time friend Nakako (18) to join as
well. The three began the standard indie band shpele: writing songs and
recording demo tapes. Still lacking a drummer, Junji and Nakako called
up middle school chum Kodai (17), now completing the Supercar we all
know and love. Supercar landed a record deal in early 1997, although
substantial success didn't hit the band until early 1999, when their
sophomore album JUMP UP was met with a flood of critical acclaim.
Junji once described Supercar as "a young and immature band," which depicts them rather well. The music is fairly straight forward: barre chords, simple guitar riffs, honest lyrics, and small electronica noises tucked away carefully in the folds. They observe society without acidic criticisms and produce a positive sound without appearing naive. |

Name: Koji Nakamura
Birthday: 1977.09.28 Blood Type: 0 Height: 165 cm / 5'5" Weight: 52 kg / 114 lbs Shoe Size: 26.5 cm Vision: 1.0/0.5 Family: Father, Mother, Older Brother, Dog Cigarettes: Marlboro Lite Influence: Nirvana (?!) Nakako is arguably the most influential persona in the band and most responsible for their sound as the main songwriter and vocal performer. His talents have great range, as he plays not only guitar but an impressive array of synthesizers, drum machines, and other instruments under the programming family. |

Name: Junji Ishiwatari
Birthday: 1977.08.21 Blood Type: A Height: 167 cm / 5'6" Weight: 51 kg / 112 lbs Shoe Size: 26.5 cm Vision: 2.0 Family: Grandmother, Father, Mother, Older Brother Cigarettes: Lucky Strike Influence: Dinosaur Jr. The understated and placid Junji is responsible for both guitar and 99% of Supercar's lyrics. Although my comprehension of Japanese is leaves much to be desired, even I can appreciate Junji's unique social criticisms from what I gather (peace of mind for sale, for instance) as well as his other unique subjects. |

Name: Miki Furukawa
Birthday: 1979.02.19 Blood Type: A Height: 154 cm / 5'1" Weight: Unknown Shoe Size: Unknown Vision: Wears Contacts Family: Grandmother, Father, Mother, Two Older Brothers Cigarettes: Doesn't Smoke Influence: Unknown Miki, quite possibly the most popular member for being a chick in a critically acclaimed rock band, stands as Supercar's second vocalist and bassist. Her voice is very light, airy, and almost impossibly high. However, as Supercar grown into a more electronic direction, Miki seems to be pushed back as merely a support singer. |

Name: Kodai Tazawa
Birthday: 1978.02.27 Blood Type: 0 Height: 173 cm / 5'8" Weight: 70 kg / 154 lbs Shoe Size: 28 cm Vision: 1.0 Family: Four people Cigarettes: Castor Mild Influence: B'z (a Jrock band) Ko-Dai is the drummer. He seems to be the most vocal of the band, I thought he was the leader when I first saw a Supercar interview. A ridiculously talented drummer, Kodai also writes a song every once and a while, not to mention his immense involvement with programming (more specifically, drum machines). |
