Listen to me my son
(A father speaks to his youngest son)
By John Cody
Listen to me my son I confess I’m guilty I will not try to hide this from you.
There are others who will go to no end to hide my crime from you. They will
Swear that it is not true. They will try and tickle your ears with their lies
They will try and make you feel ashamed to believe that what I say is true.
I will say it again I’m guilty of the crime, but what should be my punishment?
I know I know they cry out to one another for his crime we will tell his son" that
His father does not speak the truth. HE lies HE lies" they say to one another.
They live in fear that you will discover the truth about you father, but you, yes
You listen to me my son to you I will confess my crime
Once I was a young man with many years before me. Now I am an old man with
Many years behind me and fewer years ahead of me. All that I have left in life
Are broken promise’s shattered dreams of the past, to console, me in the shadow
Of the night. The shattered dreams are the dreams I had of watching my children
Grow up The broken promise’s were the ones made to me by the one that was
Suppose to have loved me.
My son the crime that I am guilty of is loving you. Now you know my crime. I
Tell you this. I also known their crime and that is why they live in fear that
One day I will confess to you their crime. That is their punishment. That is
Why they say to you he lies when he says he loves you, but I say this to you
My son listen to the council of this gray haired one and spare your self-many years
Of grief. Listen to what they say about me and listen also to what I do not say
About them. Then I want you to make your own desion about what you want.
You do what is best. For you, Not what others want you to do, and remember
This always I never stopped loving you and will not stop loving you, you are
A part of my life just as I am a part of yours.
I love you much.
Dad.
