On 16th November 2001 a group of members consisted of nearly 40 observers went to Olounabad (100 kilometers east of Isfahan).
All the members were trained in intensive courses how to observe and write properties of each meteor.
At the early hours of observation a few meteors were seen but later gradually the number of meteors increased.
The weather conditions were great and after having dinner till midnight members had the opportunity to see the planets and deep sky object with two 8-inch telescopes.
After midnight (9UT November 17th) the main program started. The sky was divided into four regions. For every region two different groups (each consisted of four person) were responsible to watch that part of the sky simultaneously.
Totally 207 meteors and 6 fireballs were seen. The maximum rate seemed to be at 11-12 UT.
Also some members, who had camera, took some photos from meteors.
The executive manager of this observation was Mrs. Kadkhodaiee.
Results of the lioned meteor shower in 2001
Total number of observed meteors= 278
Number of leonied meteor shower=207
- 74% observed meteor belong to the leonid meteor shower
- The brithest meteor that we observed this year were more than the last year.
- This year , many of observed meteor were blue and yellow which showes their passing through different layers of atmosphere
- Maximum number of meteors were observed in Tau,CMa,UMa and Cas constellations.
