Hopelessness and Desperation

Chapter 1
Missing You

It had been six years since Hermione saw Harry die in her arms. It had been killing her ever since. Her brown hair, once filled with color was a drab brown, and her brown eyes years filled with shine, were dull and desolate. She was sitting in the Leaky Culdron.

Everyone had been sympathetic, even Draco Malfoy her worst enemy had been nice to her. None of it helped. Slowly missing Harry was killing her spirit, her soul, and her heart. As she sat at the bar, she massaged her temples, hoping that some miracle cure would cure her depression, she thought about the last moments of Harry's life.

*Flashback... Godric's Hollow... In their 7th year, last day at Hogwarts...*

"Voldemort, I'm going to defeat you for the last time. Even if it kills me doing so." Harry screamed into the wind. Hermione had
remained by his side, along with Ron, and amazingly Draco.

"Petty words, Potter. I remember looking into your father's face, seeing the same courage. It'll be a pity killing you. You would have been an excellent heir, a heir to the last remaining vile of Salazar Slytherin's blood. Goodbye, Potter." Voldemort drew his wand and the battle begun.

"Avada Kadavera!" Voldemort hissed. His wand sent a beam of green light surging toward Harry. Upon impact it disappeared, as if Harry had a protection. "Lily, is protecting you well. It won't last for long though."

Harry cleared his mind as he thought, his wand aimed at Voldemort. Out of no where a brilliant white light struck Voldemort, his shrieks were heard through Godric's Hollow as he disintegrated into thin air. Exhausted Harry fell to the floor, barely breathing.

"Harry... Harry! Wake up!" Hermione was shaking his body. She cradled him in her arms, his pulse becoming slower and slower. "It's going to be alright.. Everything's going to be ok.." She bit her lip, knowing that she would lose him.. Loose him to Voldemort.

"Herm, It's not going to be ok. I'm dying. Look at me." She adverted her gaze to avoid his limp body, looking into his piercing green eyes. "Continue without me.. I'll live by your side.. I'll never forget.." Harry's eyes closed, and Hermione felt tears streaking down her pain-stricken face. Draco was trying to attempt to confort her, and Ron was staring in disbelief.

*end of Flashback*

Snap out of it Hermione! It's been six years.. Harry's gone! Get over it! You'll never be the same person. She fingered the engagement ring, that Harry had given to her as they had inspected the remains of Godric's Hollow, he purposed to her. Voldemort had to come and ruin my life. To ruin my future.

Tragically, Voldemort had drained Harry of almost all his strength and Harry was lost to Hermione forever..

Draco Malfoy sighed as he hugged Hermione tight. They had remained good friends, despite their differences. He knew that Harry had loved her, and that it was a great loss for Hermione. He knew that in her heart she could never love another man, as she had loved Harry.

As they were passing the couches and various board games that the Leaky Culdron had stocked, for people who would visit with their long-lost friends. Hermione noticed the game Ouija. She took it out, and set it down in the far table , away from the commotion of the wizards and witches.

"Hermione what are you doing?" Draco asked.

"Using this to see if Harry's spirit is still with me."

"Excuse me?? Translation in English?"

"Harry promised me his spirit would live by my side." Saying that phrase sent tingles up her back. "I'm going to see if he lived up to his name." She continued setting up the game. "Put two fingers on the pointer, and don't move it."

Draco obeyed. "What good is this going to do?? He's gone Hermione!"

"Duh, Sherlock! But his spirit must be somewhere!" Hermione observed, annoyed. "Now sit still." She placed her fingers on the pointer and whispered, as if only to herself. "Harry, where are you?"

The pointer suddenly moved, and their eyes focused on the board. "Draco are you moving it?" It was slowly moving, across the board spelling 'I-M R-I-G-H-T H-E-R-E.' "Are you right next to me??"

'Yes.' Draco's eyes searched for an answer in hers.

"Why did you leave me?"

'I N-E-V-E-R L-E-F-T Y-O-U-R S-I-D-E, H-E-R-M-I-O-N-E.'

Hermione shook her head, and tried to imagine Harry being by her side as she went through her downside in life. She couldn't. Harry had never told her anything, hadn't conforted her since his death. She thought harder, until her brain hurt from thinking
too much.

In her mind Hermione thought about Harry, and whether or not he had been there for her. When she thought about it, she
could see only Draco next to her, standing silently beside her. Dimly she could see Harry's ghost behind them.

'D-O-N-T B-E A-F-R-A-I-D, H-E-R-M-I-O-N-E.'

"Why would I be Harry?"

"Harry why'd you leave Hermione!?!?" Draco asked, getting rather annoyed with the spirit of Harry.

'S-H-U-T U-P, M-A-L-F-O-Y! I D-I-D-N-T L-E-A-V-E H-E-R-M-I-O-N-E!'

"That's it! I'm leaving!" Hermione said, frustrated. As she began to take her hands off the Ouija pointer Harry wrote:

'H-E-R-M, W-A....'

"That's the way it was meant to be, Harry." Hermione packed the board, and she walked off with Draco, back into the streets of Hogsmeade.
