Practical do's and don'ts
for the Southern hemisphere

Xian Tian Ba Gua
Look closely at this Xian Tian Ba Gua, also known as Former Heaven
sequence of trigrams.
Would you change it to accommodate conditions on the Southern hemisphere?
You would not because we know this Ba Gua is a static representation of
the heavens, not showing directions.
Trigrams are just derived from the Heaven trigram and Earth trigram, by
changing lines clockwise and anticlockwise.
This Ba Gua is to show universal principles. Don’t modify it.

Hou Tian Ba Gua
Now look at the Hou Tian Ba Gua, known as Later Heaven sequence, showing
astronomical – not local – realities.
Please remember that the association of the elements here with the
climate, seasons, weather and other local conditions is just a notional
one and of much later date.
The confusing thing with the Luo Shu is that it may include both universal
data (the Nine Stars that are the same anywhere around the globe) and
phenomena that may be true to your local only. Do not modify the Luo Shu
for hemispheres.

Universal Luo Shu or Di Pan
The original Luo Shu is not to be modified for the Southern hemisphere,
because it was not based on observation of climatic realities, the sun
pattern, the seasons or the weather.
Instead, the Luo Shu is based on geomagnetism and universal energies or
forces that are the same around our planet.
The Luo Shu can show Earth Qi and Heaven Qi and the Earth Qi shown in the
Luo Shu concentrates on earth magnetic field that is the same for both
hemispheres.

Heaven chart or Tian Pan
The Heaven chart, or Time chart, is not to be modified.
Here is the Time chart for feng shui Period 7, running from 1984-2004.
Shown is the Ling Shen direction – or Holy 0 – for Period 7 as well as the
Zheng Shen, or Holy I.
Holy 0 for Period 7 is in the East where we find 5 Earth Star.
Holy I for Period 7 is in the West in Number 7’s original Palace.

Four Celestial Animals
Against popular belief, the Four Celestial Animals do not show directions.
They originally showed four sections of the stellar skies.
We do not specifically want the Black Turtle to the North of a site, nor
do we specifically want to see the Red Bird to the South.
The Black Turtle should be supporting a site from the back, the Red Bird
should be admitting Qi from the front, if at least these Forms are
desirable as seen from the flying star chart.
No modifications should be done for the Southern hemisphere concerning the
Four Animals.

No modifications concerning timing for the Southern hemisphere.
Because a year starts at ‘Spring Begins’ – or Li Qun – it is wrongly
assumed that the year should start in Spring season.
There is no connection to the start of seasons whatsoever.
On both hemispheres a year starts when the sun reaches 15 degrees
Aquarius, which is on 3, 4 or 5 February.
Also the 60 combinations of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches
synchronize for both hemispheres.
