      We are sorry to announce the capture of part of the homeward bound fleet which sailed from this port in July last. The following is copied from the Post Office General Shipping & Commercial List of the 27th August.
    London. August 27. - His Majesty's Ship Champion, of 20 guns, arrived at Portsmouth from Quebec, brings an account of her having fallen in with on 16th instant latitude 46 50N, longitude 34 50W, a French 80 gun ship, which captured and burnt 5 of her convoy, viz: the Silver Eel, James, Allison, Polly, and a brig, name unknown. Two transports having on board the 6th regiment, escaped; as did also the John, and a brig supposed to be the Fox; but 6 merchantmen were left pursued by the enemy when the Champion escaped.
