Third Generation Reflections
Last updated: 12/9/06

The theme of this year's brunch was "Third Generation Reflections". Our speakers were grandchildren of Holocaust survivors who have traveled to Europe to visit concentration camps. Each went on a different kind of trip: either as part of a group or with their family. They spoke to us in a panel on Sunday, October 22, 2006 about their experiences and observations so that we may learn how future generations of the Shoah can connect to their history through the historical sites themselves. They were wonderful and their stories were compelling.

Here are the panelists, and links to their speeches (where available - more to come):

  • Nathan Brandys, student at the University of Maryland went with his family.
  • David Harazduk, a graduate student finishing his MA in Comparative World History (focusing on South Asia and East Asia) at George Mason University, went on the International Summer Program on the Holocaust with students from the US, Germany and Poland.  David's Presention
  • Leslie Kornreich, Program Assistant, US Holocaust Memorial Museum's Office of Survivor Affairs, went with CET Academic Programs.  Leslie's Presention
  • Jackie Ochs, an attorney with a real estate firm in Chevy Chase, went with the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School senior trip to Poland, Prague, and Israel and went again to the camps while on a study abroad in Prague with NYU.  Jackie's Presention
  • Mira (Yockelson) Silberg, social worker and founder of Grandchildren of Survivors in DC went on the March of the Living.  Mira's Presention
