Contact. If some of the above poem styles sound unfamiliar to you, the following are quick descriptions of each listed above. Sonnet: A poem consisting of 14 lines with a rhythmic theme. Ballad: Usually has a sentimental theme. A narrative in the form of a poem which is meant to be sung. Free Verse: Can have either rhymed or unrhymed lines without a fixed meter. Limerick: Nonsensical or humorous poem consisting of five lines usually following an "aabba" format (first, second, and fifth lines rhyme, as do the third and fourth lines). Haiku: A Japanese styled poetry consisting of three lines, each line having five, seven, and five syllables respectively. Usually has a nature theme. Cinquain: Has five lines having a set meter and rhyme. Acrostic: A poem in which a letter from each line (usually the first letter) spells out a name or message when the letters are read in sequence. |
