December 15: Nobody Loves Me, Everybody Hates Me, Think I'll Eat Some Wo-or-orms!

"If not for Linda Tripp's wise advice to Monica Lewinsky to retain the blue dress, the following would be current events:
"Clinton would still be lying about 'that woman,' Paula Jones would still be 'trailer trash,' Lewinsky would still be destroyed by White House spin as an 'unstable stalker,' Kathleen Willey and Tripp would still be in fear of safety for themselbes and their children and government resources would still be wasted to accomodate the coverup.
"Do we really want a leader who appears to be a pathological liar to be able to continue to use the powers of position to seduce, molest, conspire, threaten and degrade? Even disregarding criminal perjury, witness tampering and obstruction of justice, the idea that our leader has such a horrendous sense of self-control and moral judgment and has so permanently degraded the office of the presidency is misdemeanor enough to establish that Clinton is not fit to sit in the Oval Office."
---Susan Temple, letter in the Bee

Yet, Gloria Steinem is standing by Her Boy here. I didn't have any respect for the feminists before, and they don't give me any reason to change my mind! Betty Friedan is positively spitting mad. "What's the big deal?" she asks about sexual harassment, etc.

Are we Wagging the Dog tomorrow? I sure hope not.

I didn't actually describe the Saturday walk. We went to the "Fab 40s", one of the first suburbs of Sacramento, from the '90s and '00s. Big beautiful old houses, set back from the sidewalk with huge backyards as well, decorated up for the holiday. We zigged and zagged along the streets for a 4 mile total. I only took one picture, but I had a good time looking at the places and dreaming of owning them (with the maids! I'd have to have the cleaning staff!) I also talked to a SoleMate whom I haven't seen for months, and it was nice to catch up.

Afterwards, after coffee, Rich and I went shopping, including a trip to the Tower bookstore (but all I bought was my paper!) and the record store, and then the outlet. There I got "Fargo", which I've not seen, "The Full Monty", which I have but Rich hasn't, and a Tolkein reading his poetry LP which I had 30 years ago and which was borrowed by a friend and never returned. I wound up getting that one for free as the guy had rung up the bill before he saw it and decided it was easier giving me the 50 cents.

Church had its interesting moments on Sunday morning. Just at Communion, a man in the front pew had a heart attack, so we had paramedics working on him in the center aisle while Communion was being distributed in the side aisles. The priest, a visitor, grew up in the parish so he knew everyone. They carted Sal out to our prayers. This is, according to one person, the third time he's seen Sal carried out from church. He sure picks his place! Our other friend who had the stroke last month is slowly recovering, and in pretty good spirits.

Last week I lost 2 pounds, walked 10 miles, got rid of only 2 magazines, no history, no math, no mail.

Monday Rich got up about 6:30 to go to the bathroom and I was hearing this persistent buzzing. it was the neighbor's alarm, which went on and on. Rich went over with a flashlight, but saw nothing. (Another neighbor was watching him, it turned out.) We tried calling the son, tried calling the neighbors who might have a key, and no luck. It was a big alarm clock for about 30 minutes, then shut off. That night Rich went to talk to them, and apparently they didn't set it right as they left. Now we possess a key, the alarm codes, phone numbers and the works should this ever happen again.

When I started writing this yesterday I was *sulk*ing and feeling unloved. The moderator of the list I left thinks I did so because s/he doesn't read my page. Like, how many do? (actually, 10-20 a day, in fact. Many of those are family. You are all welcome, but I have no illusions that I'm the Big Wig of online journalling!) My reasons for leaving were a lot less opaque. In fact, I stated them in plain English. Obviously, then, I couldn't have meant what I said.
However, today's development has someone else, who was defending me, thrown off the list, so it appears the moderator has issues with me. It also appears I have a worthwhile friend. I really had no intention of starting a war, I just left in a huff myself. And NOT because the moderator doesn't read this page, that's just silly.

Then the local journaller whom I'd love to meet rebuffs all my overtures. I can take a hint, but I don't like it. It seems some others whom I admire are coming to town, but haven't responded to my "please call me" messages. Sniff! Dreama can vouch that I didn't kill and eat her! I know our politics differ, see above,, but I haven't yet clobbered a Clintonite.

Wowbagger was invited by for some of these super-calorific cookies, and even though he was driving by, didn't stop. It turns out, though, that he'd been paged at work, since a server went down. I gave him a couple of cookies today, so he didn't escape after all.

Oddly enough, I still feel like baking, so I got a bunch more stuff today.

And then, I got a surprise gift from Amazon.com! They sent a coffee cup! For what, $1.10 worth of referrals? Oh, well, it's a nice cup!

Guess I don't have to eat worms after all. Good thing, as I still have some cookies. (Merry Berry Cheese Bars, in fact.)
