November 4: Next Year in Lodi

(Well, since I'm not Jewish, "Next year in Jerusalem" would make no sense.) The Sandhill Crane festival is in Lodi this year. In fact, this year I actually called the number and was ready to tour the reserve and look at the cranes. However, I don't think Rich would enjoy it. Next year. We're paying for all the fun we had the year after he retired, I guess.

I watched a woman walking her pot-bellied pig yesterday. At first I thought it was a fat dog, then I got a better look. It sauntered along behind her, wagging its tail. Funny!

Rich has been picking up, at half price, a number of things (papier-mache jackolanterns, for instance) for next year. Next year we'll be decorated up!

That shooting in Seattle was right in my girlfriend-in-law's neighborhood, so I wrote her to be careful. She asked about Rich.

The married daughters and sons-in-law suggested coming here and taking us out for Thanksgiving, but I dunno how Rich will be feeling the day after his colonoscopy, and they have inlaw families, too, so we're not doing that. Next year.

I tutored Sam today. It's been a pretty bad week: the child is not focussing, and there are behavior problems. The teacher had a little talk with us. (He's a really good teacher. Sam lucked out there.) They tore up another library book, so I told Sam we were taking no more out for awhile. The librarian suggests that instead of paying the $15 fine, I replace the book, for $3.95 (actually less with my discount.) Aha. Also, this one the foster-provider knows about, so Sam will be paying for it.

Clinton's Squandered Legacy. Y'know, I think his "legacy" will be the cynicism, and "Lewinsky" will always be attached. Earlier this week, he offended the Norwegians by being late to meet the King.
Then we have Hoagland on Kosovo, and this earlier column on the same subject. Some legacy.
