June 10: Power!

Yesterday we went to SMUD's power fair. We got fluorescent light bulbs with coupons for nice low prices. More exciting, we signed up (after 1200 other people) for photovoltaic cells on our roof to make most of the electricity we use. Our roof is new, asphalt tile, south-facing, all the things they want. So, in the next year or so, we'll hear from SMUD, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, about this.

Today I took Sam downtown to the library where we had a nice puppet show.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch---house, Rich found the fan. On 100 degree days, this will be useful in the back room. He pointed out, on the shelves in the carport, boxes of school books I took when they closed down the Mustard Seed School outreach where I worked. After 9 years, they're rather dusty. I will clean them off and either recycle or send them to the church rummage sale.

I found an electric school quiz thingie and we're still looking for the cord for it, for the rummage sale. I was looking through a sack of miscelleny and found, get this, the long-missing remote for the television. We use a universal one, but this has the specialty buttons for programming all the local channels and skipping the others.

The Bee has a good series about foster care. I was surprised they didn't say anything about CASA, but this is a good explanation of what it is I do. Or at least why it is that I do it.
