Myrtle Potter:
Chapter Ten - Snakes In The Grass
Upon tucking Myrtle and Elli safe into their beds, Harry returned downstairs. Hermione had fallen asleep, baby Remus resting beside her in his crib. Oliver was pacing up and down the room and Sirius and Lupin were sitting together, in silence.

“Sit down Harry, there’s nothing you can do right now.” Said Sirius. “Elli has come back. At least that’s one less thing to worry about.”

Harry didn’t appear to be listening. “What if Myrtle’s right? What if it is Elli? What if Voldemort planned this exactly how he wanted and we’re playing right into his trap?”

“Don’t think like that Harry.” Lupin responded quietly. “Besides, Oliver is here. He’ll keep them safe.”

“We have to go. We have to find Sirius! This is my son we’re talking about, not some dammed possession! Oliver, look after Hermione and the children. We’re out of here.”

“As yer wish Herry. Ei’ll hang some geerlic, jus in cese.” Oliver’s tone was rather doubtful.

Hermione started to stir. “Harry?” She said sleepily.

“I have to go Herm, Sirius is out there. I’ll find him.” He bent down and kissed her cheek gently. A new look of vengeance appeared on Hermione’s face.

“You get him Harry. Get the bastard who stole my baby! While you’re at it, get that Malfoy scum too. He’s helping Voldemort. I know he is.”

Harry, Sirius and Lupin all left the living room and apparated, beginning their search for baby Sirius.

“Ermynee, why don yer go upsteirs to bed? Ei’ll stay down ere, yer know, jus in case.”

Hermione, tired, picked up baby Remus and took him upstairs with her. After putting him to bed, she climbed into her cold, double bed and fell asleep.

                                                           *************

Myrtle’s room was dark. She slept restlessly. She was uneasy knowing that Elli was back in her vicinity.

“You have failed me Eleanor. They are on to me. They know it is me who has their child. Insolent girl! How could you be so careless?”

“I will not fail you again. I want to help you take over and finally get rid of my father. I am yours. Bound to you for life and service. I want them dead. You are my master. I serve only you.”

“Good Eleanor. Very good. Serve me and you will be rewarded.”

A flash of blinding green light appeared in front of Myrtle’s closed eyes and her arm began to burn in agony. A scream pierced through the thoughts in her otherwise silent mind.

“Please have mercy. Don’t kill me!” A woman screamed.

“I’ll die before I ever betray them, you monster!” Another voice.

“DEATH! KILL! MURDER! DARK! LORD! RISEN!”

From the green light within her mind, a face emerged. Myrtle could scarcely make out the pained look on the face belonging to a man with a long, silvery beard and piercing blue eyes. The eyes bore into her through the near darkness. She woke.

Not bothering about her dressing gown or slippers, she raced out onto the landing. She stopped, dead in her tracks at what met her eyes.

“What are you doing? Come to murder me in my bed? I do not believe that you are innocent. Hear me! You are far from innocent. I will never believe it!”

“Myrtle, Myr, what’s happening? I just had a hideous dream. Voices were rushing through my head. People were dieing Myr. I don’t want to see it.” Elli began to cry. She sat down on the top step and started to shake uncontrollably.

Myrtle bent down beside her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. She jumped back suddenly as, for the second time that night, her arm seized up in pain.

“You little Banshee! You’re full of lies. You’re doing this to me purposely. What did I ever do to you?” Myrtle screamed, clutching her arm.

Elli’s face had turned white. Her eyes rolled back in her head and she spoke, much deeper than before.

“There is no escaping it. You and your pitiful family will die. That baby is the key to resurrection. An innocent slaughtered 15 years, 6 months and a day from his downfall will bring about his rise. At sunrise it will begin. And you will end.” Elli returned to her usual self and collapsed onto the floor.
