Frequently Asked Questions

Personally answered by Hum

1Q: When will the subtitle for the next episode be released?
1A: Check the Personal Subtitle Releases section, I will post my progress of an episode if I am working on it or finished some work on it. If the episode has empty info, that means I haven't started any work on it. There are 36.5 episodes in total for My Date with a Vampire III, the official broadcasted version in Hong Kong. For My Date with a Vampire II, there are 43 episodes. And for My Date with a Vampire (I), there are 35 episodes.

2Q: How do I obtain these subtitle files? And where are the video files?
2A: The video and subtitle files are no longer available for BT download from the original site. For the subtitle files, you can download directly from the release page. Or, if you don't have time to check my website, I can send them to you directly through e-mail but you must e-mail me your request, so that I can add your address to a mailing list. In your request, please tell me which episodes's subtitle you have already or if you have none. You will receive a confirmation email from me as soon as I get to process it. There is one subtitle file for each episode, about 100kB.

For the video files, you can download them through other BT websites (if they are available) or buy them from yesasia, which do not have English subtitles. By buying from yesasia on our homepage, you will be supporting the survival of this website. Currently, I do not see any active torrents for My Date with a Vampire. Most of my subtitles for MDWAV3 will be created to synchronize with the version grabbed by a person named Ding Kwok Yip or Ting Kwok Yip in Hong Kong. The funny thing is that this person has hard-subbed his name into the video, so you would notice it around the beginning 15 minutes of the show if you have his version. The first 5 episodes (I think it's 5) at D-addict, are not the Ding version, but I've heard that they worked fine... You might want to search for the Ding version, to get the best synchronization.

For those who have video files (.mpg format) from other sources and have some experience with softwares/video editing, the easiest way for anyone to solve the synchronization problem (if they have the time) is to download the freeware, Subtitle Workshop developed by Urusoft or the old version of SubStationAlpha v4. I've used these software to create all these subtitle files.

Editing the timestep will require some time, but that's a solution I can think of right now for the synchronization problem. To use the subtitles with legal copies of VCD, you will probably have to copy the .DAT files of the VCDs to your computer. You should be able to view subtitles along with your .DAT files after you rename them and put them in the same directory. I will not answer any questions further regarding on how to use the subtitle files, I assume that you know how to use them when you request them.

Notes on Resynchronizing Subtitle Files using Subtitle Workshop
1.
After you have installed Subtitle Workshop, run the program.
2. Open your video by clicking "Movie" on top bar, make sure the "show subtitles" option is checked.
3. In the same menu, select "Open...", choose the video file.
4. Open the subtitle file by clicking "File" on top bar, and select "Load Subtitle...", choose the subtitle file.
5. Shift the time frame by highlighting the row(s) of out of sync subtitle lines and select "Edit" on top bar and choose the options under "Timings"
6. If you have time, read the program's manual as newer/updated version might be different.

3Q: How come I can't see the subtitles when I watch the video?
3A: Check the Instructions on Subtitle Viewing section. If you still can't see it, please e-mail me.

4Q: Are there any links to subtitles for MDWAV1 or 2?
4A: Nope, I did search for MDWAV2 subtitles, but nothing came up. The official Chinese website for My Date with a Vampire series are linked below in the links section.

5Q: How can I help?
5A: Advertise, advertise, tell your friends and others on the internet how much you like the series and that there are some English subtitle files right now, tell them about VAMPSUB.com! Discuss the episodes on forums. Or better yet, use my banner on your own website or as a tag for all your posts. For those who really want actual work, I invite you to be a contributor or fact checker for this website. If you see any errors, or think that there are stuff I should include, free free to e-mail me. Last but not least, donate a quarter to us or buy from yesasia through our main page.

6Q: Where can I buy the original VCDs?
6A: You can help this website by buying VCDs and the soundtracks from Yesasia.com. All commissions will be used for web maintenance, such as domain fees.

7Q: Are you going to sub the entire series?
7A: I don't know. Depends on time, I work by myself so my subtitle work takes up quite some time. If there are more support (mailing list sign ups), I might feel more obligated to do so. From what I know, Creidesca's group (lunardreamz?) is suppose to be subtitling it also. See Poll section.

8Q: I want to share your subtitle files with my friends, do you mind?
8A: Yes and no. If you are just sending the subtitle files to your friends or even upload it at other trackers' site with no alteration to the file itself, I wouldn't mind and probably appreciate your support. On the other hand, I created these original English subtitles personally, and I really don't like anyone to change any words within it without notifying me. So if you are going to make changes or alter it, you should not distribute the files to anyone unless you have my approval.
