Not always. It's likely he'll play on the left in other games, or even as a support striker. He can also play in this position.

MILANO - Inter midfielder Emre protagonist in Saturday's night match against Lazio was a special guest last night of an Italian television programme "Controcampo", here is what he to say:
It is not the first time I've scored with my right foot, on the first goal I saw the keeper off his line and immediately attempted the lob. During the week Recoba told me to observe Peruzzi's position, because he has the tendency to play off his line. Recoba 's entrance to the match gave further depth, he is a player with great skills capable of playing on the right and on the left.
Regarding Couto's incident with Cannavaro , I must say it is a pity to see these type of episodes and Cannavaro 's gesture was to Couto and not to the fans."

"The second half was played to a very high level. I'm very happy about my first brace in an Inter shirt. To play from the first minute or start on the bench doesn't make much difference. To score two goals was wonderful but I don't think I changed the match on my own. The second goal was difficult because I started from the left; when I saw the defence advance I knew I could score."
8/12/02 Inter vs Lazio 3-3 2 Goals by Emre!!!!!..
Inter were down 3-1 at half time, but Emre worked some magic and scored two goals!!! This is how they were described by Inter:
"68° GOOAAALLL!!!!! Emre scores an absolutely amazing goal to put the Nerazzurri right back into the match. Spotting Peruzzi off his line, the Turkish international chips the Lazio keeper from 25 yards after making a run from the halfway line."

8/12/02 Soccerage Reports Emre Man of the Match..
...Then started the Emre Belozoglu show. The Turk scored two magnificent second-half goals to salvage a point for the Nerazzurri in a radically different second half by Inter.
The Turkish wizard silenced to Biancocelesti faithful in the 68th minute with a delightful 25-yard chip after spotting Angelo Peruzzi off his line.
You could have heard a pin drop in the Curva Nord in the 77th minute when Emre brought the two sides level. After making a run from the halfway line, the 'Maradona from Bosforo' unleashed a blistering right-footed shot from the distance that flew in at Peruzzi's left-hand post.

After Emre's brilliant performance against Lazio, this is what good ol' Cuper had to say about our boy wonder:
"Emre must play in the middle of the pitch because he has the technical-tactical talents to do so. I know he can also be fielded on the left, but in the middle he shows his great technique and tactical intelligence. In the changing room at the end of the match he was in a very good mood. He was very motivated. In the final stages we deserved to win due to the numerous chances we had."

What does Inter mean for you?
Turkey loves basketball very much. Inter is my NBA. Before coming to Inter various teams had come forward, English teams in particular. I chose Inter because only here do you become a great player.
What are Inter's best assets?
I've been saying it for some time. Here there are six or seven phenomenal players. If we play the ball we're irresistible. In terms of quality we're not inferior to anyone.
Yourself aside, Okan has also exploded as a player. Did you expect two Turkish players to conquer Milan?
Ever since I was a young boy my idol has been Okan . You're only discovering him now, but in Turkey he has always been considered one of the best.
2/12/02 Inter vs Brescia 4-0!!
Coming off their derby loss last weekend, Inter have played an amazing game, beating Brecia 4-0. All four goals were scored by Vieri, with the first being helped by Okan, and the second coming from a Emre corner.

MILAN - Nerazzurri midfielder Emre post-match comments after today's 4-0 win against Brescia at the San Siro:
"An excellent performance this afternoon, but we are already focused on our next matches against Bari and Lazio. We play to win every match with or without Emre 's presence. The coach gives everyone the opportunity to play, it's up to us to perform and be ready. Last year I was not able to play to at a great level due to muscle problems."

In Cuper's press conference, he makes a positive reference to Emre's performance.
Q: "Emre is turning out to be a very important player in this Inter side..."
Emre shows very high qualities when keeping ball possession. He hasn't played many games because he had a few physical problems. A player must have patience and wait for the right moment to come onto the pitch.
28/11/02 Inter vs Newcastle 4-1!!
Inter blasted Newcastle in their first 2nd round match of the Champions league in England last night. Goals from Morfeo,Almeyda and Crespo put the team up 3-0 in the first half. Newcastle responded with a goal in the second, but Recoba clinched the match with a goal in the 81st minute. Emre played the whole match. He seemed to be suffering a little from the English weather, as he wore a white turtle-neck skivvy and black gloves under his jersey the whole match! (photos up soon)

Emre and the Inter team are currently in Newcastle preparing for their first 2nd round champion's league qualifying match. He has been listed in Cuper's 19 man squad, and hopefully he will play. Emre has been suffering from a muscle strain recently and missed Inter's last game, in which they lost.

"Vieri and Di Biagio were opponents on the pitch, it had an effect on me," said Emre . "But Gigi told me to take it easy and not tire myself too much in view of the derby. They were loyal opponents but opponents."

18/11/02 Turkey vs Italy Friendly Match
Emre and Okan have been called up to play against Italy in the friendly match this week in Pescara. The game will be played at 8.45pm local time. Tomorrow night the U21 Turkish and Italian national teams will meet in Giulianova.

17/11/02 Inter and Roma draw 2-2
Inter did well to draw against Roma last night in an exciting match. Emre was subbed on for Di Biagio at the beginning of the second half, and it obviously payed off when Okan scored from Emres corner in the 88th minute. Okan's goal saved Inter from their second loss of the season. Okan then dedicated the goal to Emre!!! :) This is what Okan had to say:
"I'm very happy about my first goal in Nerazzurro. The corner from which I got my goal was right, I have no idea why the Roma players protested so much. I'd already scored similar goals when I played in Turkey. Who do I want to dedicate the goal to? To my team-mate Emre , who gave me a perfect ball."

AMSTERDAM - Emre is feeling the effects of playing twice a week but is still going strong.
"Tired? Yes, a little, but it's normal. I'll be fine for tomorrow evening," said the midfield wizard to Inter Channel.
"They're very strong at home," said Emre about the Nerazzurri's Dutch opponents Ajax.
"A point is enough for us, even though we haven't come to Amsterdam to draw because we are Inter. And then, away from home we're doing better..."

Inter's record Serie A season has been disturbed due to a loss against Udinese last night, with the final score going against the team, 1-2. Emre played well, and is currently ranked the highest in overall game performance on the Inter site's Match Centre.

COMO - Turkish midfielder Emre Belozoglu remarked to Inter Channel that second-half substitute Domenico Morfeo was fundamental to the Nerazzurri's 2-0 win away to Como .
"Morfeo definitely changed the match when he came on, because with him on the pitch we managed to open up more spaces on the wings and from there we got the two goals," said Emre .
"I'm always at the availability of the coach - when he asks me if he's ready I reply to him that I'm ready."

Emre Belozoglu relaxes after training today with a little bit of internet. Inter Channel asked Emre Belozoglu about the Nerazzurri's excellent start to the new season.
The Turkish international replied, "We played a good match and we have to continue like this."
The Inter number five was many people's choice as man of the match against Rosenborg. A visibly happy Emre commented, "Thanks, it's down to Okan 's advice."
When quizzed about his preferred position on the pitch, Emre gave a 'flexible' answer: "On the right, on the left or in the middle - I'm ready."

30/10/02 Emre's Girlfriend
Confirmation from Emre at last that he does have a girlfriend. When asked in his press conference whether or not he had an Italian girlfriend who was on tv, he replied no, that he had a girlfriend who was back in Turkey. I believe her name is Cansu.
28/10/02 Inter vs Bologna 2-0
Inter won a tough match last night against Bologna, with both of their goals being scored in the second half. Emre played the full 90 mins, but received a yellow card for a hand ball in the 28th minute. Emre had a few good chances to score a goal, but was unsuccessful. He took many of the corners for inter.
Emre's Post-match comments from Inter.it:
"Not bad, but not very good. For the team it was important just to win today. I played on the wing in the first half, in the middle in the second half. It's ok. I prefer to play in the middle, but if the coach says on the right, I play on the right."
27/10/02 Almeyda's Press Conference
Inter's Almeyda made an interesting comment about Emre in a recent conference.
With Di Biagio and Morfeo disqualified, you will probably play with Emre in midfield against Bologna. How do you get on with him?
He's a very attacking player. On Tuesday he changed the team slightly. He does wonderful things, he plays the ball and he beats his marker. He's not very defensive, but I think there are only a few small things to put right. I get on well with everyone, him included.
23/10/02 Inter - Lyon 3-3
Emre played in the starting 11 last night in the game against Lyon. The end result was a 3-3 draw. In the 37th minute, Emre's free kick only just misses goal by hitting the post. However, in the 65', Emre's cross from the far right side of the field is headed in by Crespo. Great to see Emre playing a whole game for Inter!
20/10/02 Inter vs Juve 1-1
In a big game, Inter was able to draw 1-1 with Juventus at the San Siro last night after a great goal by Vieri in the 95th minute of the game. Emre was subbed on in the 63rd minute, but was given a yellow card for fouling Davids.
16/10/02 Turkey Vs. Liechtenstein 5-0 Thrashing
Turkey showed just how great a team they are last night, taking out their 3rd Uefa qualifier in a row, 5-0 against Liechtenstein in Istanbul. In the 7' it was Okan who scored first, after a clever flick through from Emre under pressure on the left side. The other scorers were Ümit Davala (14')and Ilhan 23'. After only being subbed on in the 79',Serhat showed amazing skill by scoring two goals in quick sucession, (81', 90'). Overall the Milli Takim had a great game, and going by the Uefa.com 'minute by minute' match report, Emre had a great game, and provided many opportunities to score goals. Well done!
15/10/02 Emre and Okan on their win against Macedonia
MILAN - Following their victory over Macedonia in Group 7 of the Euro 2004 qualifiers last night, Turkish internationals Emre Belozoglu and Okan Buruk spoke to inter.it.
"We're well and we're very happy because of the good victory. We're in excellent form and we've shown that on the pitch," they said.
Emre , who played in the centre of midfield, and Okan , who scored Turkey's first goal and played on the wing, expressed their opinion on the Azzurri's result in Naples.
"We're very surprised about Italy's draw, we thought they would manage to impose themselves on Yugoslavia with ease. It's a sign of the great equilibrium in these European qualifiers."
12/10/02 Macedonia Vs Turkey 1-2 !!
Well done again to the Milli Takim for securing another 3 points in last night's Euro Qualifiers. Macedonia were a strong team, and Turkey was very lucky to win in the end! Well done to Okan who scored the equalising goal in the 29', and to Nihat who again rescued the team by scoring in the 53'. Emre was able to play the whole game, so it's good to see he has recovered... Ilhan, still nursing an injury, was on the bench.
8/10/02 Turkey's Brightest Star!
Just read this on soccerage.com... It is a little old, but I think it sums up Emre very well... I will also add it to the Articles page (after the interviews).
Star Players - Midfield: Emre Belözoğlu-The small wizard is not 22 yet but is expected to be Turkey's star of the upcoming World Cup. Emre is one of the best talents that ever came out of Turkey, and this is the chance for him to make gain a legendary status. He has a powerful left foot as well as a smooth right foot, and is also very fast. He is very clever with great offensive awareness and has a fair amount of international experience thanks to the years he past at Galatasaray and the past one he spent at Inter. Just a warning for him, "Watch your temper Emre and don't leave your team with 10-men."

Emre was started in Inter's match against Ajax yesterday. He played through the whole first half, but was replaced in the 52nd minute by Recoba. Emre limped from the field clutching his left thigh. (uefa.com) Okan also played up until the 69th minute and had a brilliant game...good to see him out on the pitch!

The official statement reported on the inter website today has said that Emre will not be going anywhere...
"MILAN - There are no ongoing negotiations for a transfer of Inter midfielder Emre Belozoglu, neither with Italian nor foreign clubs. Emre is considered a fundamental reference point of the Inter squad. "
21/9/02 Emre's Calf Injury
Emre did not travel to Reggio Calabria with the rest of the inter team for their first away game due to injury. Inter reported that Emre has sustained a slight trauma injury to his right calf.
(Oh and by the way, Inter won the match 2-1)

Inter.it reported that Emre injured his shoulder during a practice game on thursay, 19/9:
"During today's practice match at Pinetina, Emre suffered a contusion to his left shoulder. The Turkish midfielder completed the training session, and although he felt a lot of pain, there doesn't seem to be any problem."

7/9/02 Turkey vs Slovakia 3-0!!
Congratulations to the Milli Takim for their wonderful performance in their first Euro qualifiers. Emre played very well, wearing the number '2' jersey, but was substituted in the 65th (?) minute after a limping off with some sort of leg strain. I'm told he was smiling as he came off, so it can't be that serious!
Well done guys! Everyone is proud of you!!
6/9/02 Update - Problems with Cuper? Emre and Okan deny Ronaldo's claims...
Inter's Turkish midfield duo Emre and Okan have denied suggestions by Ronaldo that they have a big problem with coach Hector Cuper.
The Brazilian was quoted as saying in Spanish daily 'AS' that he was not alone in disliking the methods of Cuper.
"We were very, very surprised by Ronaldo's words," the pair said in a statement. "The reason we trained away from the squad was because we arrived back late from the World Cup.
"If we'd been unhappy with Cuper we could have changed teams this summer. We had ample opportunity to do so. We are more than happy to be at Inter under Cuper."
