Marine Biology Field Study
Golden Gardens - May 20, 2004
Hi,
my name is Molly. I'm the one behind all of these pictures. Fear me! I am almighty!
On
the way to the beach, we ran into a small wetland area. There were some Canadian
geese and some ducks in here, so I decided to take a few shots. That white thing
in the picture looks kind of like a waterfall, but it's actually a dead tree. Do
not be fooled.
These
cuties were crowding around below me so I decided to take a picture of them.
Merely
some shots of the bee-yoo-tiful beach. It's at the lowest tide at -.4 so we had
plenty of things to explore.
Two
images of barnacles. The second is particularly awesome because it's a clear
example of a competition for space. The black circle in the middle is the actual
rock. The brown and white creature is a slug or snail, I'm assuming, defending
what little room it's got left. The rest of the area is polluted with barnacles
and moss.
Many
different starfish. I like the third from the bottom; if you look closely, you
can see a white dotted star on his top. We didn't put the rocks on the last one;
the little white dots on the bottom are his feeler/feet things and they're stuck
to the rocks. That's how they can plant themselves virtually anywhere.
This
is... an echinoderm, that's all I know. I forgot the name.
This
is the echinoderm's eggs.
A
variety of similar eggs. Wow, that was an oxymoron... anyway. I particularly
enjoy the last picture. It reminds me of Thanksgiving or some harvest season
festival.
This
came out bad because I couldn't see very well out of the screen on my camera due
to the light. This is a dead jellyfish. There were many of these littering the
beach; from a distance they looked like bubbles of jelly water. That's basically
what they are though, being comprised of about 95% water...
