Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

 1. WHAT HAPPENED

A. NEW BIRTH

JOHN 3:3-21

Jesus says that unless we are born again we will not see the kingdom of God. We are born again by repentance; turning from one thing and turning to another. How do you know you are born again? (Rev. 3:20)

ROMANS 8:12-17

Being born of the Spirit, we need to be led by the Spirit. Adopted into the family of God, we now have the rights and responsibilities of sons.

B. ROMANS ROAD

ROMANS 3:23 - All have sinned

5:8 - while in sin Christ died for us

6:23 - wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life

10:9,10 - must confess with our mouth and believe in our heart

10:13 - Whoever calls on the Lord will be saved

The apostle Paul explains the process of salvation in great detail in the book of Romans. These scriptures are the essence of the prayer that began our new life in God.

No one can earn their place in heaven. (Eph. 2:8-9) God is a Spirit and to fellowship with God our spirit that died in sin must be reborn in holiness by accepting Jesus sacrifice of dying in our place. (Psalm 103:12)

C. GODS PURPOSE

ROMANS 8: 28-29

God created man to be in fellowship with Him.

I JOHN 1:9,10

All men are born in sin because of the choice that the first man made. (Genesis 3) Sin cannot exist in the presence of God. To establish the fellowship that was broken by Adam God provided a Savior to die in our place. Acceptance of that sacrifice gives us a clean slate but what happens when we sin again?

II CORINTHIANS 5:17-19

Now that you are in Christ, who does the Bible say that you are?

I JOHN 1:4-10

JOHN 16:33

Are all our problems solved now?

MEMORY VERSE:

1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2. THE BIBLE: FOOD

A. THE WORD IS FOOD

MATTHEW 4:4

To survive all infants need food, water, protection, social interaction, and the intimacy of a nurturer and provider. God provides instruction for everything we need to grow strong and healthy as a Christian in the Bible. As bread (food) provides nourishment for our physical body, the Word of God provides spiritual nourishment. It’s a matter of survival. We learned from II Cor. 5:17 that we become new when we accept Christ. Our spirit is reborn but the soul (intellect, will, emotions) and the body must be nurtured and trained in the ways of the family of God. We have spent all our lives until now developing our mind by man’s standards and not God’s. God has provided everything we need to renew our mind and walk in the responsibilities and rights of sonship.

JOHN 6:31-35 (EXODUS 16)

God provides manna daily. It is not nutritious or satisfying for the next day.

PROVERBS 3:1-8

The Bible is Gods instruction manual for life. Many of His promises are conditional on our choices. If we do our part He is faithful to do His.

B. WEAPON

EPHESIANS 6: 10-18, JOHN 10:10

MATTHEW 4:1-11 EXAMPLE

JOHN 8:31-32, 44, 1 PETER 5:8, ROMANS 12:2

Combat lies with the truth. Renew your mind with the Word of God.

C. THE BIBLE MENU

2 TIMOTHY 3: 16,17

By reading four chapters a day, you will completely read the Bible through in a year. One verse, understood and applied to your life, however is much more valuable than volumes of reading without understanding. The Bible is a book that you will never finish so read as if searching for hidden treasure in the words. A good place to begin reading is the gospel of John which tells about the life of our Savior on Earth from the perspective of a disciple who loved Him greatly. John 14-16 summarizes Christ's teachings to His disciples. Then continue through the New Testament.

MEMORY VERSE:

Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

3. PRAYER: TALKING TO GOD

A. LORDS PRAYER

Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Prayer is much more than a list of petitions with an Amen at the end. Imagine communication reduced to do this and do that! Think of prayer in terms of conversation; listening, understanding, questioning, body language, expressing emotion etc.. Talking to the Most High God can be a little intimidating at first. It is good to begin with adoration and acknowledgement of who you are addressing as in the example above. Using the Lord’s prayer as a pattern, what other elements would you include?

MATTHEW 6:14-15

Being forgiven is essential to begin a new life in Christ. Forgiving others is essential to growing in that new life.

ROMANS 10:17, MARK 11:22-26

Spoken words release faith.

B. HIGH PRIEST

HEBREWS 4:15-16, 7: 22-27

Jesus is always there to pray with us and for us.

JOHN 17:20-26

Jesus is our example and He drew away often to be alone and pray (LUKE 5:16).

1 JOHN 5:14-15, JEREMIAH 29:11-14

Refuse to doubt that God hears and answers your prayers!

JEREMIAH 1:12

God watches over His word to perform it. Memorizing and praying scripture is a sure way to know you are praying the will of God in a situation.

MEMORY VERSE:

1Jo 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

4. CHARACTER AND RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR HEAVENLY FATHER:

A. DEPTH OF OUR FATHER’S LOVE

ROMANS 8: 31-39

God is on our side. He loves us so much that he gave his Son, not to condemn us but to allow us to come back into fellowship with him; so what will separate us from him? God who created the universe is with us in every trial and temptation!

MATTHEW 7:9-11

God our heavenly Father loves us so much more than our earthly father. He will not withhold any good thing from us, however what we think is good for us and what God knows is good for us may be different.

1 JOHN 3:2-3, JOHN 15:9-11

As a son desires to be like his father, so should we strive to be like our Heavenly Father; looking to the example of our big brother Jesus.

B. TRINITY

I JOHN 5:7

God is a three-part being, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and created us in His image, body, soul, and spirit.

C. WORSHIP

JOHN 4:23-24

How must we worship?

EPHESIANS 5:19 - psalms, hymns, spiritual songs and melodies

PSALMS 134:2 - lifting hands to the Lord

PSALMS 47:1 - clapping and shouting

1 CORINTHIANS 14:15 - pray and sing in the Spirit and with understanding

PSALMS 149 - dance and music

God desires our love expressed in each aspect of our nature. As we grow more and more comfortable in our relationship with Him, we can express our love and gratitude in many ways.

MEMORY VERSE:

1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

 5. COMMUNION AND: BAPTISMS

A. COMMUNION

JOHN 6: 47-58

I CORINTHIANS 11: 23-32

Partaking of the Lord’s supper is acknowledging Him in His death.

 B. WATER BAPTISM

ACTS 2:38, 8:12

Water baptism is a public demonstration of dying to our old life, and being raised with Christ in newness of life. We trust the baptizor to raise us from the water. This symbolizes our trust in the Father to raise us from death to life spiritually.

Baptism means to be cleansed or washed, to be made fully wet or cover wholly with a fluid, dip. (See Strongs 908, 911)

C. SPIRIT BAPTISM:

ACTS 1:4-5, 2:4

Jesus told His followers to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. He was sent as promised and is still available to all believers today.

JOHN 15: 8, GALATIANS 5:22-26

The physical evidence of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling is fruit in the believers life.

JOHN 14: 16-18, 26, 16:13, ROMANS 8:26-27, ACTS 1:8

Jesus promised us a comforter when He went to the Father to help:

1. teach us all things

2. bring all things to our remembrance

3. empower us to be witnesses

4. lead us into all truth

5. us to pray

D. FIRE BAPTISM:

MATTHEW 3:11-12, ACTS 9:3 CONVERSION OF SAUL

This is the baptism that brings holiness, complete separation unto God for His will to be done in you and through you.

MEMORY VERSE:

Isa 41:13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

6. PROTECTION

A. BODY OF CHRIST

I CORINTHIANS 12:12-31

Just as skin protects our organs and muscles, the body of Christ, the church, protects us spiritually by accountability and loving support.

B. ANGELIC PROTECTION

PSALM 34:7, 91:11

God provides supernatural protection to His saints.

C. ARMOR

EPHESIANS 6:10-18

Armor is necessary for a soldier of the cross.

D. TITHES AND OFFERINGS

MALACHI 3: 8-12

Tithes and offerings belong to God. He promises to rebuke the devourer for our sake when we are faithful to offer Him the firstfruits of our life.

2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-11

God established laws in the Earth. The world says it this way; "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". If we throw an object into the air, the law of gravity will cause it to fall back down. The same law is true spiritually. If we repent, we receive forgiveness. If we plant seeds, we will reap a harvest.

MEMORY VERSE:

1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
