THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

    WHAT IS A SHEPHERD? ONE WHO TENDS TO AND GUARDS A FLOCK OF SHEEP AND OR GOATS. WEBSTER SAYS, TO TEND, TO GUIDE OR TO GUARD AS A SHEPHERD. JESUS IS THE CHIEF SHEPHERD. FROM THE WORD THE PROPHET ISAIAH TELLS US,

Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.                                                                                                                                                               Isa 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

    JESUS IS OUR SHEPHERD. HE WILL TEND OUR NEEDS, HE WILL GUIDE AND TEACH US AND HE WILL GUARD US FROM EVIL. HE TOLD US THESE THINGS.

Joh 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

IN 1PETER WE READ THAT WE ARE THE SHEEP THEREFORE WE NEED A SHEPHERD.

1Pe 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

    BUT, AS FOLLOWERS IN CHRIST WE MUST TAKE ON THE DUTIES OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD. WE MUST TEND THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED AND HELP GUIDE THE LOST. THE APOSTLE PETER KNEW THESE THINGS WHEN HE WROTE TO THE BELIEVERS THAT WERE FLEEING JERUSALEM. WE MUST SET A GOOD EXAMPLE TO THE FLOCK.  HE INSTRUCTED THEM IN THE SAME WAY. HE KNEW THAT THIS WAS WHAT THE LORD WANTED AND IT IS WHAT THE LORD EXPECTS FROM HIS PEOPLE.

1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;                                                                                                                                                    1Pe 5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.                                                            1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
