 | 10 March - It
didn't go so well - yet... Dominique lost 6-4 6-1... Now we have to look forward to next
week when she will play at Lipton Championships - she lost in first round last year,
hopefully she will do much better this time! |
 | 8 March - Dominique
won again! Yes! This time it was even more convincing - 6-4 6-0! By the way, it was her
6th "love" set win this year! But now, one of the toughest opponents on WTA tour
is waiting - Venus Williams. And surprisingly, in r.s.t. there are some who believe that
Dominique can win this one, let's see.... |
 | 6 March - So,
first round match is happily over - Dominique won in straight sets 6-1 6-3 and will meet
Barbara Paulus in next round. But, sad news about doubles tournament - Dominique was
playing with Tamarine Tanasugarn this time and the lost in first round in quite strange
match 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (9-7) 0-6... I quess they were too tired after very tight first two
sets... Unfortunately it hasn't gone so well in doubles recently... |
 | 5 March - Just
a little note - it seems that Dominique can be seeded as 10th in this competition - no
confirmation about it, yet... |
 | 2 March - Dominique
has come up to her career high level again - she regained her 15th spot where she was
before the Australian Open. She has 1709 points totally (603 Q, 214 A, 0.00 D). Sabine got
one spot higher as well - she is now 20th with 1366 points (585 Q, 73 A, 0.00 D). |
 | 1 March - Dominique's
4th final of the year wasn't specially successive, she lost to Jana Novotna (again!!!) in
straight sets 1-6 6-7 (2-7). Btw, one reason could be that she had some kind of injury in
her elbow - she got some treatment before the tie-break. Let's hope that it wasn't
anything serious and she can play her best tennis in Indian Wells again! BTW, I have on
tape both the semifinal and final! Nice! |
 | 28 February - Dominique
has reached to her 4th final this year! She won Iva Majoli in semifinal after Iva retired
after losing the first set 6-2 because some back problems. |
 | 27 February - New
standings for "the Race to CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS" are announced - it's now in its
second month and it definitely looks good for Dominique!

 | 27 February - There
was all-Belgian quarterfinal today in Linz between Dominique and Sabine (seeded
respectively as 4th and 7th) and this time it was win for Dominique in straight sets 6-3
7-5!!! It seems that her title as "the highest ranked Belgian woman" is being
even more and more secure. Well done, Dominique!!! Now she will meet Iva Majoli in semis,
let's hope that it goes like 2 weeks ago in Paris! :):) |
 | 26 February - Dominique
is taking part in doubles event as well - this time her partner is Silvia Farina of Italy
and they will play against Yayuk Basuki & Caroline Vis (HOL) later today - and it is
already their second round match - they defeated Karina Habsudova & Florencia Labat
with a walkover in first round. Good luck for them! |
 | 25 February - Dominique
had a tough match in second round - after quite weak beginning she win the third set
tie-break by 9-7, result was 2-6 7-5 7-6. Now she may meet Sabine in quarters - but Sabine
has to win her second round match first... |
 | 23 February - Just
a little note - program which I use for "storing" Dominique's results gave me
following comments after putting in Faber Grand Prix results - You have now played 20
matches ('98) against all of them. You are doing well - how about finding some tougher
competition...?!?! |
 | 23 February - Something
really unexpected - Eurosport is showing WTA tennis and it's not even Grand Slam!?! On
24th of February at 12.00 CET there will be a coverage of Faber Grand Prix - maybe even
Dominique has had a luck to happen to be catched by the camera - let's see! |
 | 23 February - Dominique
will play in Linz ,Generali Ladies Tier II tournament this week and she is 4th seed there
- getting first round bye. Draw is quite good for her - she will meet winner of the
Habsudova & Gersi match in second round and in quarters it can be Sabine! Still no
information about playing doubles... |
 | 22 February - WTA
has announced new rankings - Dominique is still 16th with 1497 points totaly and 629
quality points (30 points were added), Sabine is on her way up again - she is 21th now
(1295 T, 562 Q, 214 A - win over Graf, I quess...). |
 | 19 February - Today
brought both positive and negative news - Sabine won Steffi Graf 6-3 7-6 in quarterfinal
in front of German fans! Although Steffi isn't in her best form right now, this is still
great win for Sabine.(Check out a video-clip about this match). Negative news involve
Dominique - she lost in three sets to No 1 seeded Jana Novotna 6-4 4-6 3-6 - she won the
first set but got tired in next ones. But as "Eurosport" commentators said - she
gave many frightening moments to Novotna. Still no news about Dominique's doubles results
- they met Lisa Raymond & Rennae Stubbs in second round. |
 | 15 February - Her
ranking has gone upwards again - she's 16th with 1501 points totaly and 533 quality points
(20 tournaments). Last time 244 points were added and now she has to defend only 34 points
in Hannover. In 1998 prize money rankings Dominique is 11th with $85 037. Sabine's WTA
ranking is still 24th with 1122 points (453, 24, 30, 41) although she had some success as
well - together with Miriam Oremans she won doubles title in Paris! And more rankings -
Dominique's doubles ranking is 70 (78) with totally 554,5 points (128,5; 15; 51; 64). |
 | 15 February - And
here it came - her 3rd final this hear!!! She lost to Mary Pierce 3-6 5-7, but despite
that it was a great achievement for Dominique. (Look at pictures from this week!). |
 | 14 February - Dominique
met Nathalie Tauziat in semifinal of Open Gaz De France having all French crowd against
her (read more about it in our Interviews section). But homecourt didn't help Tauziat so
much as expected - Dominique won in three sets - 7-6 1-6 6-1! And it's Tier II tournament
- has she had such a success in so highly ranked tournament before? Have to check it
out.... |
 | 13 February - Yess!
Dominique is doing really well - after losing their doubles match (walkover in some
unknown reasons) she defeated her doubles partner Iva Majoli in straight sets 7-5 6-3! |
 | 12 February - There
were opposite news for fans of Belgian tennis - positive one: Dominique won Witrud Probst
in third set tie-break 5-7 6-2 7-6 (6-2)! Now she could meet Iva Majoli in quarters, hope
she manages to continue like that. Negative news are about Sabine - she lost in second
round to Sarah Pitkowski 7-5 3-6 1-6. Seems that she has totally lost her confidence,
sad.... |
 | 11 February - Yepp,
Dominique's doubles partner is Iva Majoli and they will meet Emmanuelle Curutchet/Sophie
Georges in first round. |
 | 10 February -
After some "quiet" days, Dominique is in action again. She won Barbara Schett
6-2 4-6 6-0 in first round of Open Gaz De France in Paris. Yes, she is on winning track
again! In second round she will meet Wiltrud Probst or Laurence Courtois and in quarters
Iva Majoli-her doubles partner?!? Does it mean a new level in her doubles play? Let's
see... By the way, Dominique is seeded 6th in this tournament. |
 | 8 February -
New rankings again - ranking spot has remained the same - 21th, points are 1258 (T) and
429 (Q). Some improvement anyway... |
 | 1 February - As
Dominique isn't playing this week the only news are about ranking again - ranking isn't
changed - Dominique is still 21th but total points are 1258 (quality points 429), but
Sabine has moved further down - she's 24th now (points are the same). |
 | 26 January - WTA
new rankings are announced and both Belgian top girls have unfortunately gone down a
little bit, but Dominique is still the highest ranked Belgian female tennis player.
Dominique is ranked 21th now with 1203 total points and 417 quality points. Sabine's
ranking is 22th (with respectively 1165 and 480 points). |
 | 24 January -
Sad news for all Dominique fans - her successive run to another great perfomance in
Australian Open was interrupted by Yayuk Basuki in straight sets 4-6 4-6. The day before
it the doubles team of Dominique wasn't either successive - lost to Australian couple ...
by 5-7 4-6... |
 | 22 January -
Yess! Successive second round for Dominique - she won Tara Snyder in straight sets 6-3 6-4
and now she will meet Yayuk Basuki in 3rd round. Next opponent can be Martina Hingis or
Anna Kourinkova - possible TV-appearance?!? |
 | 21 January - At
10:00 AM local time on the 22th of January Dominique will meet Tara Snyder of USA (116) at
court nr. 18 in 2nd round and she can meet Yayuk Basuki (INA, ranked 22) or Kristie
Boogert (NED, ranked 77) in next round. |
 | 21 January -
There is no singles match today for Dominique, but together with Laura Golarsa of Italy
she won a first round doubles match against Danielle Jones (AUS) and Aleksandra Olsza
(POL) with final score 6-4 6-1. BTW, other Belgian double Els Callens and Laurence
Courtois lost 6-7 (3-7) 5-7 to Catalina Cristea (ROM) and Ann Wunderlich. So Dominique
seems to be Belgiums greatest hope this time! |
 | 20 January -
Dominique has started her AO well defeating Rene Simpson from Canada in straight sets 6-3
6-2. Nice! |
 | 19 January -
Dominique won't be playing today but there are sad news about Sabine - she lost 6-2 2-6
3-6 to Natasha Zvereva and will lose even more ranking points. |
 | 18 January -
Dominique reached her second final this year (on second tournament of the year), but this
time it did not lead to title - she lost to Patty Shnyder 3-6 2-6, but anyway - a win-lose
score is still impressively 9-1! Go on, Dominique! |
 | 17 January -
Corel WTA Tour announced new rankings. And Dominique is ranked career high 15th
!!! Total ranking points are 1475, 86 points were added and she has 273 points to defend
at Australian Open. Let's hope she manages to do it! And another important point -
Dominique is now the highest ranked Belgian player as Sabine fell down to 18th in
rankings. Congratulations, Dominique!!!

 | 16 January -
Australian Open draw is announced - Dominique seems to have pretty easy first rounds. She
will meet:
 | Rene Simson (CAN) in the first round; |
 | Tara Snyder (USA) or Patricia Hy-Boulais (CAN) in the 2nd; |
 | Possibly "the great" Martina Hingis herself in 4th round
! ! ! |
|
