Will Book A, pp. 87-90(Estate papers are in Estate Box 38) Records Room Troy, Pike County, Alabama transcribed by Lyn Lucas, 2 August 2001 I Jesse Ricks of the County and State aforesaid being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make rdain publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all wills or parts or Codes of wills by me heretofore made and declare this only to be my last. 1st I will and bequeath to my wife Sarah Ricks all the lands and plantation on which I now live together with the following named Negroes ie (?) Billy and his wife Betty Silvy and her three children Hinson Polly and Miles and other increase if any and Charles and Fortune and Mary. Also my entire stock of cattle and hoggs my sorrel mare and huffman horse and gray horse my two horse waggon my ox cart and oxen and sufficiency of provisions and forrage to last her and them one year and seventy five Dollars annually out of the proceeds of other property together with as much of the household and kitchen furniture and plantation tools as she may think necessary for her own convenience the above named property to be hers and to remain with her during her natural life or widowhood after to be applied as hereinafter directed 2 I have given my Grand Daughter Nancy Elizabeth Lewis only heir of the body of Daughter Polly who was the wife of Necy (?) Lewis a negro girl Hannah worth four hundred and Eighty dollars which said Negro and her increase of any I do most earnestly desire and request may be delivered to her the Said Nancy so soon as she arrives at a lawful age or Marries 3rd I have heretofore given to my daughter Delilah Dill who was the wife of Robert Dill for the use of her bodily heirs a Negro Girl named Caroline worth two hundred and Eighty Dollars 4th I gave my son John Ricks in his lifetime a _________of land four hundred Dollars and one hundred and fifteen dollars in cash a horse bridle and Saddle with ninety Dollars and a Negro boy named Meradith worth three hundred and eighty dollars and have given to my daughter in Law Rachel Ricks widow of my said Son John four hundred and Eighty Dollars 5th I will and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth King wife of Collan B King for the use of her bodily heirs a Negro Girl named Claricy and a Negro boy named Moses the two worth five hundred and Eighty Dollars the rest of my property not herein mentioned I desire to be sold and the dues collected and after paying all my just Debts the rest of the money to be out on interest until the death or marriage of my wife Sarah Ricks then the entire ballance of my property except Billy and his wife Betty who I desire to be free and Robert Dill to be their Guardian to be sold and as much of the proceeds given to each of my grand children including what has been give to each several family as will make each individual one of my grand children equal to my grand Daughter Nancy E. Lewis the residue to be equally divided among my Grand children and may the Sons in Law and daughter in Law Lastly I do appoint and constitute Judge S Williams and Robert Dill of Barbour County Execurors and my wife Sarah Ricks Executrix of my last will and testament __________ be __________ the third and fourth from the top before assigned signed sealed published and declared in presence of

The State of Alabama In open Court personally appeared Thomas Boswell, Harman C Wiliams and Wiley Stripling Subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will who after being duly sworn says that they and each of them saw Jesse Ricks whose name is subscribed thereto sign seal and deliver the same as and for his last will and testamint on the day and year therein mentioned and that said ___________ Subscribed their names as witnesses witnesses thereto in the presence of the said Testator Sworn to and Subscribed in open Court the 2nd (?) day of July 1838.
