It takes more than a roof over your head to make a home. Worldwide, more than 1,600 million people ( that’s almost a third of the world’s population) live in ‘live-threatening’ and ‘health-threatening’ conditions – overcrowded and lacking in basic services.
No-one can feel at home when their life is threatened by illness and disease because of where they live.
Bad housing, poor diet and an unhealthy physical environment cause tuberculosis to flourish; poor sanitation and water supplies foster diarrhoeal diseases. Hundreds of millions of people who lack the basic resources needed to make a decent home are left without one – and their number is growing. The proportion of poor people in the world has fallen slightly, but with a rising world population their total number is increasing fast.
Only very rough estimates are made of the number of homeless people in the wealthy countries of the ‘North’; but all of them show that the number has been increasing sharply.Reasons for homelessness:
Detailed analysis reveals that 40% of those officially homeless in Britain became so because
· parents, relatives or friends were no longer willing or able to accommodate them.
· Political repression,
· war,
· hunger and
· environmental degradation
force increasing numbers of people to flee their homes.
These are the most important ones and they only refer to homeless in Britain.
Can you think of some other possible reasons ?
·
·Homeless sleep on park benches
Homeless sleep in stations
They want a house - not a rich one
But given with compassionHomeless want food
Homeless want clothes
They are like the ones
who want to loveThey want a house
To have a job
They want money
They just want to be lovedWhere can I go?
Where can I stay?
Are the questions
They make todayLiberty is flying
Like birds
It is like dancing
With the one I love.10th J , no.16 & 19

Kill the difference
Be all equal
In colour, in appearance
Make the difference smallYou sick mind!
Each one is a person
Fake? You’re blind?
Don’t pressureThey are what they are
They feel what they feel
Accept the difference
Accept their will
Accept them as they areRicardo B. ( 11ºB - 1995/96 ) - go to top

What are the colours of your skin? What really matters, is it the colour of your skin? ...
It’s not the skin that loves ...
What loves is the heart ...
So what’s the colour of your heart?
Why doesn’t everyone know that the heart hasn’t got a colour?
The heart is the same for everyone!
All hearts come from one Big heart
God!
In our world people are catalogued in closets with drawers
For each colour of the skin!
But this is very bad!
The sky has just one colour!
The sea has just one colour!
The sun has just one light that shines for all of us!
So why divide people, we are all equal!
The heart is just one ...
The heart beats the same in everyone!Ema, Carla, Vera ( 11ºB - 1995/96 ) - go to top
Discrimination
I wake up in the morning
And look around myself
I really don’t believe in what I’ve seen
I saw violence and sexism
I saw slavery and racismI saw discrimination
I saw... I saw... my world??
Is this a real world??
Is this my world??I heard somebody singing
I’m in the end of the corridor
I walk, walk, walk
I want to find the music
I also want to sing
I want to find libertyFinally I find
The end of the corridor
I find a new world
Everything is peacefulBirds are flying
In a blue, blue sky
Horses are running
In a coloured, green land
Someone is singing
A beautiful, beautiful songAm I dreaming?
I must be...
Liberty is singing just for me ! ...
