Harris family as connected to the
Wolf family. (Research notes of
Beverly Reeves Conolly)
Elizabeth Harris married Hugh Tinnin, Jr., in
Cape Girardeau, Mo., 30 January 1814. Elizabeth was the daughter of
James and Sarah Farrar Bibb Harris of Goochland Co., Va. Abbeville Co.,
S.C./Lincoln Co., Ga... Hugh was the son of Col. Hugh and Sibella
Thompson Tinnin. Cape Girardeau County, Mo., Marriage Book 1805-1825;
Marriage License #109:
James Harris, father of Elizabeth Harris Tinnin, was born ca. 1765,
Goochland County, Virginia, died in Lincoln County, Georgia; his will
dated 7 Sept. 1803 and probated in the 1804 court session. James married
Sarah Farrar Bibb, daughter of James Bibb and Sarah Farrar. Sarah Farrar
was the daughter of Thomas Farrar and his first wife, Catherine Perrin,
who was the daughter of Richard and Katherine Royal Perrin, as proven by
deed of gift, Henrico Co., Deed and Will book 1677-92; I, pg 389: Oct.
1, 1686, naming “Thomas Farrar, son-in-law and his wife, my daughter
Katherine”.
James and Sarah were probably married in Abbeville Dist., S.C. between
1790-1795; moved in 1796 to Lincoln Co., Ga.. (proven by will of William
Bibb, Jr., son of James, naming his sister Sarah Harris in his will
dated Jan 7, 1819; recorded May 3, 1819, Lincoln Co.; also proven by
land records.)
Will of James Harris, Will Book B., pages
52-54, Lincoln Co., Ga. .....my children: HENRY, BETSY,
JAMES, ADAMS, AND ONE UNBORN. (Note: the “unborn
child” mentioned in James’ will was named Richard).
It would appear that Sally, wife of James, died
in or around 1822, at which time Hugh and Elizabeth Tinnin, then in
Lawrence Co., Ark., bought the land in Georgia from Elizabeth’s three
brothers who were also in Lawrence Co., Ark.. According to the will of
James, Sally was to have the land until her death, at which time it
would go to his children, Henry, Adams, James, Elizabeth, and Richard
(not yet born in 1803.) In 1818, Thomas Murray, as administrator of
James’ estate, was paying the taxes, and the slaves were still on the
land until it was sold to Farrar, from whom James had purchased it in
1797. Sally never married Mr. Watkins, by whom she had Augustus Watkins
Harris, and who was born in Missouri.
