husband John Quincy Adams. Richard Ervin also became the second husband of
Ann Jane (McFelch/McFeilch) Wolf. Ann Jane (McFelch) Wolf who was the wife
and eventually the widow of James M. Wolf and the mother of his son James M.
Wolf, Jr. She later married Richard Ervin Adams and together they had nine
children. Some sources have her named spelled differently (McFielch/McFeilch)
and some show her as Mary Ann.
Burial: Sycamore Graveyard Ireland, Coryell Co., Tx.The 1850 AR census shows a listing for the Richard Erwin Adams family
with wife Ann Jane. I believe this, Ann Jane, to be the widow of James M.
Wolf, son of Major Jacob Wolf and his first wife Milly Meredith. I believe
the person listed as James Moore age 6 is really the son of Ann Jane McFelch
and James M. Wolf, Sr. Also there is a Sarah McFelch age 50, I think to be
Ann Jane's mother. There is a Sarah Gullett age 32 that I do not place. The
Mahalah McFelch, age 27, is probably Ann Jane's sister. There is a William
Brown age 19 listed. There is Mary Jane Adams age 2 also listed. Both
husband and wife are shown to be born in AR and dwg 5, Big Northfork twp,
Fulton Co. data is given.

MATTHEW4
ADAMS
(ROBERT3,

UNKNOWN1)
was born 20 Feb 1799 in Christian Co., Kentucky, and died 18 May 1889 in
Ireland, Coryell Co., Tx.. He married PRYSCILLA
CATHARINE
WOLF
23 Dec 1817 in Hopkins Co., Ky., daughter of MICHAEL
WOLF
and MARY
HEDRICK.
She was born 20 Feb 1800 in Rowan Co., N.C., and died 05 Dec 1873 in Golaid
Co., TX.. He settled on the Tutt farm in Union Township 1840, 1850. He moved to
Bexar Co., Tx 1857
Matthew married about age 18. See Wolf House Historian Volume 1 April
1989 #2 Pages 4-10. He and his wife were the first white settlers on the
White River. He was a member of the AR Territorial Commission and the first
judge of Izard Co., AR.
E-mail from a descendant - They moved to San Antonio area about
1851, They were in Goliad Co., in the 1860s and 1870s. So they were in TX
before the Civil War. Her brothers and half brothers came about 10 to 15
years later.
R [Richard] H. Adams and Francis Marion Adams are sons of Matthew and
Catharine Adams. (Notice the spelling of Catharine with an "a" which is the
way it is on her grave stone.) After researching Francis Marion Adams for
sometime, it was decided that the evidence was strong enough to include him
even though he was not in the 1850 Marion County census. The strongest
evidence was a diary by Charity White a relative, whose family moved to
Goliad County about 1875/6. She gave genealogy details although some of it
was sketchy and informal.
As for the families of Robert K. Adams, there are problems with one
family in TX and another in AR/MO with children in both locations being born
in alternate years. My thinking is there were two different Robert Adams.
One is Robert K. Adams and one is Robert Matthew Adams, but Robert
Matthew would not be possible if he died in 1856 as indicated in Leona's
book. There is no MI "K" in his Bexar County census records and Bexar County
will. Robert K. and Mary E. are in the 1850 Izard County census before their
children were born. They were located in the vicinity of Mary's parents.
So far I cannot verify the death date for the Robert Matthew Adams that I
believe is the one found with his other family members in Texas. So I
believe he did not die as indicated in the book but rather went to Texas
instead.
In 1851, Matthew and Catharine migrated to the San Antonio area before
settling in Goliad County. Except for John and Sarah B., it is thought that
all of their children went with them to Texas. John and Charity must have
been well established and he later operated a grist mill south of Yellville
before he was killed by Jayhawkers during the Civil War. Sarah B., a widow
with family, probably went later in 1867. After the Loviska book was
published more information has been found concerning other probable
children.

Some new information has surfaced since the Loviska book was published in
1978. Shirley Smith
sent a picture of Catharine's gravestone after they discovered the grave
site in Goliad County. The inscription reads: "CATHARINE wife of MATTHEW
ADAMS BORN Feb 20, 1800 DIED Dec 5, 1873".
Catharine Adams is buried in a shared family plot which also contains
graves of their adjacent ranching family of DANIEL Y SAWYERS Caty's grave is the only recognizable grave left being protected by a
cast. wrought iron cemetery fence locked with a lock identifiable to the
Wolf Store in Marion cty, AR. The daughter of DANIEL Y SAWYERS by the name of Elizabeth married
FRANCIS (Frank was his nickname) MARION ADAMS in Goliad cty apparently. I
think he might be a hereto unidentified Adams family member. He would have been born circa 1834.
FRANCIS MARION ADAMS applied for a Confederate pension # 10822, 12 Jan
1904 which was approved 15 Sept 1905. It dates his age as 69 on his birthday
of 16 Dec 1903. He served 3 years with the Co "D" ,33rd TX Cavalry Regiment
and signed on at D'Hanis, TX which was BEXAR cty at that time. His residence
was in BEE cty, TX at the time he applied for pension. Another point of interest was one of the affidavits proving service, to
wit: R.H. Adams, age 67, Ysleta, El Paso cty, TX, first knew the applicant 60
years prior in MARION CTY, AR (1904-60=1844 when he Francis Marion Adams
would have been 9 years old, and R. H. Adams would have been 7 years old).

John Q. Adams built the first grist mill in Marion Co., AR, on the
headwaters of Mill Creek, three miles south of Yellville. In the 1880's this
mill was owned by Judge John Quincy Adams. It is said that John Quincy Adams
was killed by Jay Hawkers. He had ridden a mule out to collect a debt when
he was killed. His wife and daughter, Caroline, picked his body up and
brought it home in an oxcart. The Jay Hawkers had not only taken his life,
but also stolen his mule and boots.

The June 1880 Census for Bearden Twp., Marion Co. AR, shows Charity Adams
living with the Calvin Summers family. Calvin and Lucinda were the parents
of her daughter-in-law Jane Elizabeth Summers who married Charity's son
Matthew. Has there been a mistake in placing the home number, should Charity
be the head of house rather than her daughter Sarah. Sarah is shown with two
children Thomas 13 and Robert 10, looks like their name was Adams which was
blacked out. Wonder who the father of these children are, we think she was
married to a Vanzandt and a Anderson. If their name is Adams, there may be yet another person. Don Ott researcher.

ADAMS
(MATTHEW4,
ROBERT3,

was born 23 Nov 1826 in Izard Co., AR, and died Abt. 1860 in As told to
children by their mother - Adams book page 25. He married MARY
ELIZABETH
IRWIN
29 Sep 1849 in Izard Co., Ark. or after 1860 in TX as posted by LDS site,
daughter of LEWIS
IRWIN
and MARGARET
STADER. She was born 29 Nov 1825 in Putnam Co., Ind., and died 16 Apr 1899
in Fair Grove, Greene Co., Mo.
He took part in the Tutt and Everett War, a feud which raged in Marion
Co., AR from June 1844 to 1849 when Gover non Roane sent Col. Allen Wood
with a company of militia to stop the bloodshed. By this time the Tutt
family had nearly been exterminated and the Everetts, whom Robert K.
supported, were decimated. Church records of the Methodist Espicopal Church,
Norfork Mission, Batesville District, AR Conference dated Oct 14, 1854,
records a letter of transfer for Robert K. and Mary Elizabeth Adams, stating
they were "acceptable" members. This letter suggest that Robert K. Adams took his family from Ar to Green
Co., MO., but no record has been found to prove he did go to Missouri. It
seems very probable that sometime before 1860 the couple separated. She told
her children their father died around 1860. As of 2004, this family
researcher believes he died as his wife said and that the data
attributed to his later life really belongs to his cousin Robert
Matthew Adams, son of his Uncle John Quincy Adams and wife Mary
Ann Wolf,
The Loviska book reports that However Robert K. is found very much alive with another wife and family
in Bexar Co., TX in 1880 (There is a Robert Adams found but it is NOT proved
that he was the same Robert K Adams as listed here-db). Mary Elizabeth Irwin
Adams did move to Cedar Co., MO where she lived among her relatives. She
told the census taker of 1860 that she was a widow, perhaps because she was
ashamed of her marital state or she really was a widow (db). She either inherited or purchased land in
Cedar Co., Mo which she sold in 1867 and 1872. By 1880, she had moved to
Pleasanton, Linn Co., Kansas where she kept a boarding house. During the
last years of her life, Mary Elizabeth returned to Fair Grove, MO to live
with her son, Edward "Dock" Adams where she died.
The Adams family bible from which this information was taken, contains no
record of the death of Robert K. Adams, the only member off the family for
which this information is missing.

It appears that Matthew and his family left Arkansas sometime after the
1850 Census was taken and before the 1860 Census [when they show up in
Texas] was taken. I believe they are in Goliad
County, Texas for the 1860 Census. I do know
that their move was probably prompted by the fact that Matthew's son Robert
was involved in the Everett/Tutt or Tutt/Everett war on the side of the
Everetts.
My ancestor Mary Ann does not appear with Matthew and Pryscilla on the
1860 Census. By 1869 she is married to Unknown Brummett as her daughter
Hulda Catherine was born in 1869 and her son Dudley Newton Brummett was born
in 1875. In 1877 she married my great-grandfather Michael Patrick O'Sullivan
in Coryell County, Texas. My grandfather Richard Mikel Sullivan was born in
Coryell County. He in turn married Mrytle Jane Turner and had 5 children one
of which was Willie Ethyl. Willie Ethyl Sullivan Dutton married John Thomas
King, Jr., 1943. They had one child Ann Kerryn King [me]. I was born on 06
November 1945 in Gilmer, Upshur, Texas. I currently live in Houston, Texas
and am married to Richard Andrew Tebow. Mary Ann Adams Brummett Sullivan
died sometime between 1910 and 1919 in Whitesboro, Grayson, Texas. I believe
it must have been close to 1919 as my mother [Willie Ethyl] born in 1910
remembered "Grandma Sullivan" In addition my mother told me that Mary Ann
was buried in the Sullivan lot in the Whitesboro Cemetery. However there is
no tombstone nor have I been able to locate any record to that effect.

Notes for LUCINDA
WOLF:
Her birth year is disputable. It is either 1809 or 1819 however family
member that I have met personally insist that the family bible page which is
virtually unreadable now, gives the date as 18 dec 1809. I personally view a
copy of the biblepage that Normadale Smith used to support her claim of the
birth date. The 9 is definitely readable it is just the 1 or 0 that is in
question.
_____
Lucinda Wolf, b. 18 Dec 1819/09 probably in KY, m. Peter F. Adams. There
is some confusion as to this information whether it concerns the daughter of
Major Wolf or the sister of Major Wolf. The family members presently living
who are descendants of the Lucinda Wolf who married Mr. Peter Adams feel
that it relates to the daughter Lucinda and that is why it is recorded here
in this manner. The bible page recording births is very old and hard to read
but shows the birth date for the daughter Lucinda to be 1809 and not 1819 as
stated in some publications. The family members also have letters which
refer to the Major as Grandfather and not Uncle, however, there is no
document that states the names of the parents of the Lucinda Wolf who
married a Mr. Peter Adams. There is more than reasonable doubt to support
the belief that this material is in its proper place.
She married
Peter F. Adams who was b. 5 Jul 1806 in KY, and d. 16 Apr 1857 in AR. They
were married 23 Nov 1826. He was a man of property and said to be have been
of a cold, forbidding appearance and of a reticent nature. Nine children
were recorded in the family Bible and, according to the 1850 Fulton Co., AR,
census, all were born in Arkansas.

There was a doctor Edward St. Leger Hough from Germany and schooled in
the best Europe had to offer, he showed up in Fulton County and subsequently
had an affair with Judge Hunter's wife. He then moved on over to Big North
Fork and set up a practice. Mildred's husband had died and they soon started
an affair. The correspondence was carried by her servant. Her father found
out about it and beat both his daughter and the servant. They had an
apointed hour set up but; nonetheless, when
the Dr. arrived at the selected corn crib and signaled, he was met with gun
fire and fell dead. Peter F. Adams was never convicted of the killing but it
was understood he was mixed into the matter. Mildred did remarry later and
perhaps she moved from the county.

The story on them is they had a place in Old Frio Town, Frio Co. Texas
and traded with a man, whose name is in the book I can't buy, in Loma Vista,
Zavala Co. Texas for a farm. This was the family farm for a very long time.
John Quincey Adams, the son of John Quincey Adams the son of Jesse Adams,
ended up buying everyone out of their share of the farm and after awhile he
sold it and moved to Corpus Christi, Nueces Co. Texas. Jesse died two weeks after they
moved to the farm and is supposed to be buried out there which I assume is
the cemetery in Loma Vista that is now a part of the Gates Ranch. Lucy is
also supposed to be buried there but niether were listed in the cemetery
survey and that is the cemetery I haven't gotten to veiw and my cousin has
the pictures of. I am going to have to go to Crystal City and check their
grave yards also. Oh Yea Upchurch was fondly called Uncle Up. Eva Adams

_____
Loma Vista Cemetery is on land that once belonged to A. D. Everett one of
the first settlers to loma Vista. Jesse and Lucy Jane Clinkscale arrived
shortly after in the early 1880's. The cemetery was started in 1883 and Jesse Adams was the second person
buried there. Before the war between the states Peter F. Adams was a
prosperous plantation owner. During the war Jesse Adams, his son, was ascout
for the confederate Army along the border of Mo. and North Ark. The old
Peter Adams bible list the names of 26 slaves who helped work his land( in
this respect, sad times J.W.A.) While Jesse was away at war, Lucy Jane and a
devoted black slave woman lived on and worked the farm on which James
Wallace Adams was born. A baby girl was born to Jesse and Lucy, Amanda
Adams, she died in infantcy. Due to the hardships of the war Jesse lost his
health, so when the war was over, he and Lucy Jane and their small son
departed by way of horse and wagon for Texas. They stopped first in Bell Co.
from there they moved near Goliad Tx. on the Manahuilla Creek at Fannin,
Goliad Co. Texas. On January 14,1868 John Quincey Adams was born here. They
lived in Goliad co. for five years after which they moved to Frio Co. Texas
and took up a homestead on the Frio River near old Frio Town. After a number
of years in Frio Co. a land owner by the name of B. L. Crouch, who was
anxious to consolidate his land holdings swapped Jesse land in Zavala co.
for his homestead in Frio Co. The new homestead now belonging to Jesse Adams
lay along the Loma Vista Creek in Loma Vista, Zavala Co. Texas. Jesse lived
about two weeks after moving there. He died May 23,1882 (these years don't
match on his death and the year the cemetery was started but they may just
mean it wasn't named until 1883) Lucy continued to live on the Ranch at Loma
Vista until her later years she then moved to Crystal City and lived with
her grand daughter Irenw Adams until her death Nov. 15,1943 she was 101
years old. Information submitted by Martha Ann Hipp Vesper a great
granddaughter of Jesse and Lucy Jane Adams.
James Wallace Adams was born March 04,1862 in White Water, Izard co. Ark. He
died May 02,1949 in La Pryor, Zavala Co. Texas and is buried in the Sunset
Hill Cemetery in La Pryor. He married Willie Frances Bentley born Sept.

She was born 10 Jul 1863 in Decatur, Wise Co., TX, and died 30 Jun 1957 in
Marfa, Presidio Co., TX. He was orphaned at the age of five and he made his
home with his older
brothers until after the Civil War when they all moved to Texas. He has been
described as blonde and blue eyed and his wife is said to have been a
brunette. Sometime during the 1890's, George and his wife and four living
children began a long, arduous trip by wagon to West Texas, settling in
Water Valley, Tom Green Co., They had planned to go on to New Mexico where
his brothers, James and Robert had previously moved. However, for several
years they remained in thi8s small community; and it was here that their
youngest son was born. They still cherished the dream of moving to NM, a
dream that was put aside when a grandson was born at Marathon,
Brewster Co., TX. After visiting their son and their new grandson, they
decided to stay in Marathon and they built a home and established a transfer
and hauling business.

I found this marriage listed on page 1809 of Hopkins, KY records.
The dates for the family members comes from a hand written note in the
possession of Gwen Wolf and it states that the handwriting was that of Orena
Herd who was 90 at the time. The two people known as Bud and Klisa were not
mentioned in Orena list. Their names came to me from Helen Wolf who supplied
their names but no dates were given with them. The data from Orena was
recorded in May 2001. The Helen Wolf information had been given to me in the

NANCY5
WOLF (ELIZABETH4
ADAMS,
ROBERT3,
JAMES2,
UNKNOWN1)
was born 11 Sep 1836 in or 1834 Arkansas probably, and died 02 Jun 1895. She
married (1) DANIEL
CULP
Abt. 1855 in Izard Co., AR, son of THOMAS
CULP
and LAVINA
JEFFERY.
He was born 09 Nov 1826 in AR, and died Abt. Sep 1860 in Izard Co., AR. She
married (2) THOMAS
MORTON
Aft. 1866, son of SAMUEL
MORTON
and MARY
SMITH.
He was born 1830 in MD, and died 25 Apr 1889 in Norfork, AR area. After the death of her husband you find Nancy Culp on the census with her
three children and two of her sisters. She must have named her youngest
daughter after her sister Eliza as they have the same name. Her son George
has been identified as being buried in the old Wolf Cemetery.
It is believed that as a widow she married Thomas Morton. Gwen Wolf
personally said that she thought there were children of this marriage but to
this date no records have been found to verify this.
Nancy Wolf Culp. born 9-11-1834, died 6-2-1895
The page from Michael Wolf's Bible gives this date : * Nancy , b.,
11,Sept. 1836. But they did agree on the day Nancy was born and the month of
September.
He said the information was given to his mother by Orena Blount Herd,
herself, and was written down in his baby book. This information came from
Bill Herd who was Orena Blount Herd's grandson.
____
The book, Anonymity Denied by Jack Hill has offered proof that she indeed
did marry Thomas Morton as a second marriage for both. She had two sons
named Morton.

Marriage: Abt. 1855, Izard Co., AR
Notes for THOMAS
MORTON: Thomas Morton paid taxes on 37.55 in 1883/06/01 - This land is now in
Baxter County.
_____
Though he is found in the household of George H. Morton, on the 1850 AR
census as being 20 and a farmer, he was the son of Samuel and Mary A. Smith
Morton as proof given by 1840 Daviess Co., KY Census. Thus, he was not only
thought toi be the brother of George H. Morton but also the brother of
Samuel Adolphert Morton, born 1842, Arabella Morton, John H.B. Morton and
Henry E. Morton.
Thomas joined the CSA on the same day as Samuel Adophert Morton and in
the same unit. He enrolled on June 14, 1862 at the age of 32 and was paroled
June 5, 1865, at Shreveport, LA upon his unit's surrender there.
The book Anonymity Denied by Jack Hill gives proof that Thomas is the
husband of Nancy Wolf Culp. Census records provide this proof. This makes
Thomas also distantly kin to the Wolf family in two connections, both by
marriage.
Lodge records show that Thomas was buried at Pleasant Run in Wolf
Cemetery. Grave was not found by Sep 1987 when the article was written for
the Wold House Historian. But many grave sites in that cemetery are probably
lost.
He was admitted to lodge on Dimit from Military on Apr 1, 1882. He was
master of the Adams Lodge in 1888, a Captain in the confederate 27th
Arkansas Infantry at age 32, according to his enlistment record. He was
paroled after his units surrendered at Shreveport, Louisiana on June 5,
1865. The 27th Arkansas Infantry was organized on July, 1862 under the
command of Colonel James r. Shaler, with field officers Lt. Col. Arthur J.
Magenis, LT. Col., James M. Riggs, and Major (later Colonel) Beal Gaither,
and sworn into Confederate service for the duration of the war. The regiment
was recruited from the following counties: Co. A, Yellville and Izard
Counties; Co., B, Carroll County; Co., C; Bellefonte and Searcy County; Co.
D, Richland; Co. E, Marion County; Co. F, Locust Grove and Jasper; Co. G,
Mount Olive; Co. H, Izard County; Co. I, Independence County; and Co. K,
from Yellville. They were initially assigned to Shaver's Brigade of
Hindman's Division in northwest Arkansas in January and February of 1863,
then to Tappan's Brigade, in Gen's Sterling Price's Division, from April to
November of 1863. They remained with Tappan's Brigade through the remainder
of the war. In the first weeks of September, 1863, the 27th served in the
Little Rock defenses at present-day North Little Rock. After General Price
abandoned Little Rock, the 27th retreated down the Southwest Trail to Benton
and on to the vicinity of Arkadelphia, while they spent the winter of 1863.
General Kirby Smith ordered Churchill's Arkansas Division which had most of
his infantry (including Tappan's and Gause's Brigades) to Shreveport,
Louisiana in late March, 1864 to counter the advance of Union General
Nathaniel Banks up the Red River. The 27th served through most of the Red
River Campaign during March-May 1864, including the final battle in the
southern phase of this campaigning at Pleasant Hill. They then slung their
knapsacks and went back north into Arkansas in time to fight at Jenkin's
Ferry on April 30, 1864. The regiment saw little additional combat during
the rest of the war, and eventually surrendered with General Kirby Smith on
Mary 26th 1865. Samuel A. Morton also served in this unit. We have not been
able to prove the relationship of these two men but believe it to be
brothers.

_____
Also in this book on page 173 it speaks of estate records for Thomas
Morton showing a widow Nancy Morton, G A or (H) Morton - his son by first
marriage, Mary Ellen Sale which could be the Ellen listed in the household
of George H. Morton in 1850 as 19 years of age - since at that time Thomas
Morton was listed as living in the same household, but it could also refer
to a younger sister Mary E. Morton who married James Connie Sale. It also lists R. C. Morton who would be
his son by the second wife according to this book and someone named Arabelle
Nothung living in Johnson Co., TX. (I do not know who this person is as
Arabella Morton, sister to Thomas Morton never married - but I do know that
members of the extended Wolf family as well as James C. Sale, and several
members of the Adams families did move to TX. The Talburts moved to Johnson Co., Tx
specifically.

PETER CORNSTALK.
Wedding held at Wolf House in 1826.
Children of MARY ADAMS and PETER CORNSTALK are:
One source says the couple had twin sons (Not
confirmed). Can find no evidence of these children if they existed.
Turnbo Tales reports that Cornstalk went to CA gold
fields. Another early day writer reported seeing Cornstalk as a hunter
and trapper in and around Yellville, AR .
Peter Cornstalk is suppose to have had a brother John Cornstalk b. about
1800 who changed his nave to John Avey. There are many Avey
descendants in the Izard, Baxter, Stone, Marion county areas of AR. It
was said that to keep from being forced to leave the territory and to be
able to own land the Cornstalk family took on the maiden name of his mother
which was Avey and that distanced them from their Indian heritage of
Cornstalk. Many members of the Bishop Pierce Harris and Martha Jane
Wolf family were descended from this Cornstalk/Avey line as Mr. Harris's
mother was Nancy Jane Avey. The line of descent from Chief Peter
Cornstalk is thought to be through his son John Cornstalk. See
Martha Jane Wolf for
this line.
