Shortly before Trip Shakespeare split up, Jake, John and Dan were recording some solo material under the name Pleasure. After a successful gig in which they did mostly covers, the trio decided to write some songs together, which led to an 8 track EP. This caught the eye of Elektra records, which the band signed for in 1994.
The album itself contains some of the most loved Semisonic songs, such as Sculpture Garden, a home-town favourite, and In The Veins. Pleasure EP also contains basement versions of The Prize (the single off the EP), and Brand New Baby along with a personal favourite, Wishing Well. John also has a go at stretching his voice box on Star. The album ends with The Gift, a relaxing accoustic song in which you can really appreciate the soothing sound of Dan's voice. |
