New Weekly Magazine Article/Interview
"The Next Tom & Nicole?"

This year is shaping up to be the year of divorce, with Hollywood couples such as Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, Nic Cage adn Patricia Arquette, Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin, and Helen Hunt and Hank Azaria breaking up.

Last week, rumours were flying that it was also the end for Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette, but in an exclusive interview with NW, the couple have vehemently denied the godssip. So are the Arquettes going to be the next Tom and Nicole?

"I feel bad for Tom and Nicole, but their marriage is none of my business. And as far as Courteney and I breaking up, that's just a downright lie. I don't know where people get off making this stuff up. It's just creepy and gross," says David Arquete, on the phone from Arizona, where he's filming Arac Attack. "Our marriage couldn't be better," he continues. "We're going to be together forever. People can say what they want. It doesn't affect me."

The couple have recently worked on the same movie, 3000 Miles to Graceland, but didn't share any scenes. "Everything about my life is better since I married Courteney," he declares. "The only hard thing about our marriage is when we have to separate because of work. It's difficult when we're relying on long-distance phone calls when we need to be able to communicate with each other and be honest and all that stuff. "Courteney elevates my life and my career in so many different ways. I'll forever have a fire inside me. She elevates my emotions so much, and gives so much to me."
Courteney, in LA promoting 3000 Miles to Graceland, blushes when told of her husband's passionate words. At first, she appears speechless, and then says, finally, "Wow, David." Another pause. "Well, I think it's true that everything about his life is better since we married, but I don't think that's just because of me. When you're in a relationship and it works, life is just better. He makes my life better too, but I'm not the poet he is," she laughs. "I just love him, that's all."

The couple have always been open about using therapists, even before they got married, to help iron out potential difficulties. "So far it hasn't been difficult to be in a relationship," she says. "We get written about, but it doesn't really bother me. The hardest part is not being togeher. But we give each other a lot of freedom. We let each other completely be ourselves and we have so much trust that it's not so hard to maintain a good relationship," she says. "A few days ago, I'd heard that I'd filed for divorce, kicked him out and that he was a very bad boy. Absolutely none of it's true," she scoffs. "To me, it's just...rediculous. But it doesn't bother me that much, because it is so stupid."

Another popular rumour about the couple was that David wasn't sure if he wanted to have children. "Hey, I can't wait to be a father, and I know we'll do that soon, but we're taking our time and having a marriage first. Having a kid is a huge responsibility, and I want to be completely ready when the time comes."

In the action-adventure 3000 Miles to Graceland, Courteney shares some steamy scenes with Kurt Russell, but it seems even that's not too much of a problem to David, who laughs, "Tom me, that's more offensive than all the gunfire. It sure hurts a lot more. So I stayed off the set on those days and went to Hooters." She laughs again at her husband's response. "Those love scenes are so out there. The hardest part is really kissing, I think, because our scenes (in bed) were kind of, 'Woo-hoo, anything goes!' But they don't mean anything while you're doing it,' she says. "As long as you looked alright, and the lighting is good."

Courteney, clearly in love, speaks lovingly of David's unusual dress sense and obvious eccentricity. "I love that he dresses the way he does. It's not like he's contrieved, that's just him," she smiles. "This is David. We wake up in the morning, and he wore whatever he did to sleep, some kind of...outfit," she laughs. "And before he even goes to get coffee, he actually puts on an entire ensemble. And we're not talking just a jacket and a pair of pants. It'll be a certain pair of slippers, maybe a hat, socks - a whole thing. Then after that, he takes a shower and puts on another complete outfit. It's unbelievable the amount of clothes the man goes through in one day! He just does his thing - and I love him for it." And does the Friends star have any quirks herself? "Well, I started collecting dolls, but as you can imagine, David took that ball and ran with it," she laughs. "You wouldn't believe how many we have now!"
