New Zealand - Page 3
Wellington and beyond

I managed to capture a quick shot of the New Zealand Parliament building, known locally as the Beehive. I did manage to capture a few more interesting pictures in Wellington, but I have chosen to leave them for another day. We did manage to tour the new Museum of New Zealand, called Te Papa, located down on the waterfront in Wellington. |
Wellington is blessed with a wonderful Botanic Garden that we had the pleasure of visiting on our last morning. | |
The cable-car pictured here took us a fairly short, but enjoyable, ride up the hill immediately behind the central wharf area in downtown Wellington, up to one of the entrances to the Botanic Garden.

Now, I have no idea in the world as to the identification of this plant. It appears to be a cross between a thistle and a clover, but it stands about 90 cm high, with the flowers being about 12 cm each. The original of this photo turned out to be one of the nicest ones from the trip, even if the subject matter isn't the most inspiring. |
The Lady Norwood Rose Garden is found within the Botanic Garden site. Luckily, being January, the roses were in full bloom. Unfortunately, the photo here does not do justice to this lovely spot. I would highly recommend a walk to this end of the Garden to see the roses. |

Well, that's my personal photo tour of New Zealand. In fact, I took 6 full rolls of pictures. Most of them were not particularly worthy of presenting here and some were more personal, but I treasure them all. I must say that I am quite determined to return to New Zealand at some time in the future. I would estimate that a month would be an appropriate period of time to set aside for exploring the highlights of this wonderful country. I think I could easily spend a month exploring the North Island alone. Beyond the cost of the airfare, prices in New Zealand are quite reasonable and if you are prepared to some backpacking and hitch-hiking, the whole affair could be quite inexpensive. Do, however, set some money aside to take advantage of some of the lovely food and wine. |
