Napier and Wellington

Up    Home

Regrettably, Lisa and I did not have a great deal of time in Napier, with most of it being spent making a leisurely wander in the downtown area and the rest visiting a couple of lovely little wineries before heading off to Wellington.  Napier is one town that I would dearly love to revisit to give it a proper look-over.  Given a few days, I am quite sure I could consume several rolls of film and at least an equal number of bottles of wine.

Napier is renown for its' Art Deco architecture, due to an earthquake in the '30s that put the rebuilding effort squarely under the Art Deco influence. NZ401.jpg (84842 bytes)

A small back alleyway caught my eye for its cleanliness, more than anything.  New Zealanders seem to pride themselves in maintaining a neat and orderly appearance in their towns and cities.   It was evident everywhere I travelled, and particularly so here.

The day was overcast, and the scanner refused to give me the results I was looking for here.  In any case, a church in Napier.

Moving along to Wellington, New Zealand's capital city, we managed to find a day's respite from travel.  Our first morning was a particularly clear day that yeilded two of my favourite photographs from the trip.  Presented below, the scans really don't do justice to the originals which (in some form of humble opinion) turned out to be of near postcard quality.

Another shot along the Oriental Parade.   This is a lovely and colourful part of Wellington.

Wellington is located on a saltwater harbour.  Activities on the water were ever present.
