Born and raised in a small, eastern Ontario town, Daniel Martins life changed the day he first picked up a guitar at the age of 12. His immediate passion for the instrument drove him to pursue it. Already a drummer in his elementary school band, Daniel initiated the creation of his first band, Freeway. Heavily influenced by artists such as Green Day and NOFX, Freeway managed to showcase their flourishing musical abilities through the writing of their first album Is There a Way? This album led to Freeways success in the Cornwall punk scene for many years. Playing alongside other bands such as Belvedere and Pushover, Freeway managed to land many local gigs. These appearances instigated their featuring on the compilations Eat Your Veggies Productions, Cornwall Underground 1 and 2. Though the band gained and lost a number of members throughout the years, the core members of Freeway still throw an annual Christmas bash for their longstanding fans. Apart from Freeway, Daniel continued to cultivate his artistic ability. At the age of 16, His devoted father, Pete Martin, bought him his first owned acoustic guitar for landing a weekly solo gig at a local bar. Today, Daniel is still seen playing the prized possession. Daniel built up his artistic credentials through this gig and also gained favor in the eyes of the public. However, the years passed and Daniel graduated from high school which caused him to relocate to Ottawa for college. Music continued to thrive as his primary passion. At the young age of 18, he emerged as an active participant in the Ottawa music scene. He began The Daniel Martin Band with his good buddy shane killoran. They rapidly began to showcase three times a week in local venues. These appearances landed the band a gig at The Highlander, a popular bar in the heart of downtown Ottawa, twice a week. The Daniel Martin Band has appeared on Breakfast Television, and also hosted a benefit concert for the Red Cross. Though these accomplishments gained headway for the emerging artist, Daniels professional path took a turn when he met Jonah Kanter, another Ottawa musician. Realizing their similar vision, they quickly formed an acoustic duo. Playing together for only one month, Daniel and Jonah proceeded to record their first self-titled album. To no surprise, this album sold out completely off of the stage. Graduating from College in the spring of 2002, Daniel was free to pursue his musical path. Later that year, he set off on a backpacking excursion. This period of mediation and travel proved significant in the development of his music. During his travels, Daniel was introduced to the music of Dave Matthews and The Grateful Dead, which slowly began to influence the way that Daniel both perceived and shaped his music. Once on the west coast in beautiful British-Colombia, he met up with his brother Richard, of West Coast jam phenomenon Slammin Jack. Daniel recorded his first solo demo As fate may have it, at Highland Sound. This solo project demonstrated Daniels artistic skill and commitment to excellence. Daniel wrote the music, played all of the instruments, as well as produced and mixed the album. With new material under his belt, he was recruited to play larger events such as The Coors Light Cottage Party in Northern Quebec, Canada Day in downtown Ottawa, Princess Island Park during the Calgary Stampede, and other festivals like Rock the Vote in Ontario, and the Kaleidoscope Festival in BC. Daniel has made multiple appearances on Breakfast Television, and has had radio airplay.
