WORLD WAR 2 | ||||||||||||||||||
Although links to the most of the pages containing lists of Czechoslovaks and associated persons in Britain during World War Two can be found elsewhere on this site, I gather them here to make searching for specific persons easier. The total number of entries on the lists is just under 20,000. 1. CIVILIAN REFUGEES Compiled from the BCRC/CRTF Case Index List, contains 13,398 names of Czechoslovaks who arrived in Britain as civilian refugees and family members "acquired" after arrival. COMPLETE ALPHABETICAL LIST - 13,398 names (430KB) For more information see the BCRC/CRTF page. 2. CZECHOSLOVAK SOLDIERS AT CHOLMONDELEY After evacuation from France and arrival in Britain in July 1940, Czechoslovak soldiers were sent to a camp at Cholmondeley Castle. Of these, 539 were expelled from the Czechoslovak forces after expressing reluctance to serve any further, leaving 3,342 names to form the Czechoslovak Brigade and provide personnel for the military authorities. LIST OF 'MUTINEERS' EXPELLED AT CHOLMONDELEY - 539 names (24KB) LIST OF THOSE REMAINING IN CZECHOSLOVAK FORCES - 3,342 NAMES (125KB) Please note that those who immediately on arrival in Britain were sent to RAF Cosford to form RAF units are not included. Only if they were transferred from the Czechoslovak Brigade after 1st August 1940 will their names appear here. Please click on the following links for the pages on the Czechoslovak Brigade and the 'Mutiny'. 3. WANTED: SPECIAL SEARCH LIST GB In the summer of 1940, with the possiblility of invading Britain, the Germans produced a handbook for the invading troops which included a list of persons for immediate detention. This contained at least 205 persons from , or connected with, Czechoslovakia. To go to the page with the list please click on the link below. WANTED: SPECIAL SEARCH LIST GB - 205 names 4. CZECHOSLOVAKS IN THE RAF The web site of the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR) contains a list of Czechoslovaks who served in the RAF, mostly in the 4 Czechoslovak squadrons, throughout the war. There are also a few related articles, all in Czech only. To reach the 'umbrella' page for this area of the ACR site please click here, or you can go directly to the pages with the name lists by using the links below. Please note that although the names are sorted accurately according to the Czech system, there are NO accents/diacritics shown in the lists. I found these pages relating to Czechoslovaks in the RAF via the results of a Google search. I found no way of finding them and navigating to them through the "front end" of the ACR site. If you know how to do this then please let me know!
