Euro Lambretta Jamboree 2001 - Langenthal, Switzerland

June 2001 - Page 2

Friday ..and it was just a short journey over the border to Langenthal and to the whole purpose of the trip.  The site was right in the centre of the town, the campsite being a couple of fields opposite the fire station.  (Hey, it just gets better and better!!)  It was a beautiful, hot day as we pitched our tents and peeled off our extremely sweaty, smelly gear.  We were greeted by Chuck Swonnell and Mandy from Darlo who were part of the Full Bore Tour, 20 nutters who did the trip on Model Ds!!

Most people seemed to have arrived safe and sound, Nesty from Sunderland being the only one to arrive minus his scoot and with his right arm in plaster after having also had a blowout.  Kev Walsh and Eric Tudor also had a tale to tell (although Moy tells it better!).  They had a lucky escape too, doing an impression of a pair of clackers on the way to the rally….let me explain!.  One was towing the other when a Merc came round a corner on the wrong side of the road.  Both decided to go in opposite directions to avoid a collision and ended up smacking into the doors when the car went through the middle and caught the rope!!

A few of us decided to head off to the outdoor pool for the afternoon to cool down …only just finding it thanks to the person who moved all the signs!!  You know who you are …Mossy!

Friday was always going to be a big night knowing we didn’t have to be up the next morning to ride on to somewhere else.  We had a lot to measure up to, Mossy and Marvo having set the stakes by nicking a papier mache cow from a night club the night before!!  So, after having tea in the local co-op café (yes, that’s right!) we met up with everyone at a bar in the centre of town and began the serious business of relaxing and getting a few bevvies down.  We eventually met up with an ex-pat from Leeds of all places who showed us round a few of the town’s drinking holes, ending up much worse for wear at an English bar with some of the lads from Cumbria.  (There was more but I was p*’!ed so my recollections of the evening are a bit sketchy -soz!!)

Hoping for another day lazing by the pool we were sadly disappointed when Saturday dawned with cloudy sky.  Soon the heavens opened so we decided to head into town for the day.  Later on, the evening’s festivities began with a meal in the main hall for everyone.

What was to follow didn’t seem that great so, with most of the English contingent, we headed off to make our own entertainment in the bars in town.  We ended up being chased out of most bars, the locals finding it difficult to cope with about 20 loud, drunken scooterists representing most of northern England from Newcastle down to Barnsley!!
