The only setting the scoundrel had access to affecting you personally was
your access preference, e.g.: "no mail," "special announcements," "daily
digest," "individual mail." The HTML switch is only in your personal
preferences although I should say that I have that switched it off in my
personal options as I prefer text only particularly now with the sircam
virus on the lose (not sure it will help, but who knows).
The "no email" setting replaced the "web only access" setting some time ago,
when they installed the "special announcement" feature which only owners and
moderators may use. It gives the individual member the option of turning
off everything and only receiving communication when they enter the group
website. The moderator may override this choice as you saw from the
numerous complaints the past couple days, but does so at the risk of causing
member ire. At present, we would prefer not to continue to anger everyone.
Postings will continue on CFC_Experimental, the closed version, for as long
as members choose to remain or until we are satisfied that the group no
longer functions. However, all members were switched today to "no email" to
prevent further upset. We will not be changing that again and only did so
to communicate the reason for creating CFC_Experimental2 and ask members to
remove themselves from the old group and join the new one. It did cause
some confusion at the outset which we hope we have dispelled. But, to
answer question, the point was that while you can continue to interact
online with the group, you will receive no more e-mails from the group
unless you alter your settings personally.

Thanks Angel-Pie Mouse, Misty Bunny, and Nowaywins.
You guys are handling this situation admirably. I'm
sorry that it happened, but I suppose it's, as you
say, a learning experience.
I also regret the anger directed at the founders. I
understood immediately that this was not in your
control or of your making. I appreciate all the work
you guys have done. Hang in there and know that it is
appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

We've been going through some crazy times the past few days because
some scoundrel to whom we gave moderator privilege used it to wreck
the club. Your "no email" setting, for example, may have been changed
by NOWAYWINS or I for a time because this person had switched everyone
to "no email" and we frankly did not know who wanted it that way and
who didn't.
"No email" means no email, you receive nothing from the group
whatsoever. In order to communicate with all the members that we had
been hacked so-to-speak, we had to switch everyone to a regular mail
setting temporarily. During that time, a few posts the message board
in response to our notices sort of snuck through the super-highway
size gap we created. Oops.
I hope you did receive notice that we are starting over again in a new
group called CFC_Experimental2
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cfc_experimental2) Among other things,
the person who wrecked the group made us "private" (join by invitation
only), which is irreversible and definitely not a desirable state for
the character of this group. He also made it impossible for us to ban
or alter membership.
I know it is a pain in the butt, however, could you please join
CFC_Experimental2 (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cfc_experimental2)
and post your inquiries there?

I hate to say it, but yes. Although I really shouldn't speak for
him, it will be a lot easier on NOWAYWINS to follow posts and
inquiries on one CFC_Experimental board only. Please don't disappear

Hi April and all!
I don't know that you were denied, April. I do know that when we were
masacred last
week, the perpetrator made CFC_Experimental private (by invitation only).
It was for
this reason that we created the group CFC_Experimental2. However, you were
already
a member of the original group, so your membership should not have been
affected unless
you for some reason removed yourself and attempted to rejoin.
Actually, we would prefer it if subscribers did leave CFC_Experimental and
rejoin
CFC_Experimental2 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cfc_experimental2 It will
be much
easier to keep up with the message board properly without the name confusion
(you can
see just from this comment how very confusing it can be). We are keeping the
original
open at this point for the benefit of subscribers who haven't yet gotten the
word and in
order to copy out the important posts.
The second part of this problem is that the person who wrecked the original
group was using
an anonymous ID. We had no information on who he was, where he came from.
He never
posted in the group, never asked any questions. He merely waited until he
was granted
access as a moderator and then messed us up. We realized that our openness
was our
downfall, that we at least have to have some idea that the member is a
founder or has
administrative status in a club or group before we give that yellow star.
Checking these
credentials out however does take a little time and NOWAYWINS does have a
life
(full time job, two-year-old son, and a baby due in September).
He announced Tuesday that he should begin promoting members of
CFC_Experimental2
this coming weekend. We've tied that promotion to an e-mail you send him
stating your
club/group name and address. If you are already a member of
CFC_Experimental2, write
him at CFC_Founders@y... with the words "CFC_E2: Moderator Status
Request"
in the subject line. We get a lot of mail to that account and it makes it
a lot faster if with that
reference. If you are not a member there--and I don't believe you
are--please join and
send the email mentioned.
I hope that this precaution and request make sense. I plan on posting this
message to
CFC_Experimental2 as well (let's see if this works).

Dear Sir,
I was worried where this group has been lost, when I searched
for this group (CFC_EXP) ,which I had placed in my favourities and
was not succesful to find it on 27th July,(for some help in my yahoo
group "maheshwarinetclub" ).
I have little experience in Internet. Your group is helpful for
new persons like me. But, such great things should not be left in
hands of "un-identified" persons, who can damage such struggle in
minutes!. You have done good that you are not making "moderators" to
all subscribers, in your new "CFC_EXPERIMENTAL2"group!!I think, still
more reservations be made for promotion of a member subscriber to
status of "moderator".As had to get help from another yahoo club
after becoming its member (ccugpconline), during your group absece on
27th July.
I usually open my mail once a week and found a lot of mail
(messeges)on today from CFC_EXPERIMENTAL2 group. How can I stop
these?

from the group. I tried to reset some of the options back to a
default setting but there was to much damage done. The Group as it
stands now is an invite only group. We started a second Group
(CFC_E2) and have transfered the membership to CFC_E2. Again your
settings would not have transfered over. Things are a bit of a mess
while AngelPie and i do damage control, copy data and configure the
new Group. We are also looking into whom may have done this and how.
Needles to say we both both hours behind in our regular computer
activities and sorry to say in our explanation to you. I would like
to thank mistybunny for the postings that she did in explaining what
was going on. This is the first time i have visited any of my
Clubs/Groups in about 12 hours. We hope to have things settled down
in the next day or so. We ask that you check your settings in either
Group to ensure they are to your likeing. For those of you who may

that depends on how you send your mail. If you post from the group website then you need to edit your profile and add a name there, if you are using a mail program like Outllok Express then you need to have a 'display name' set up for the acct, which is what i am using to reply to your mail. If i had answered from the web site, it would have displayed 'Roger'
