Subject: Fw: Watch for messages

If you are surfing into Yahoo Clubs today
(and yesterday) the message board does not reflect the actual posts.
Click on "messages" on the left to see that there are other messages
posted, but they aren't showing up on the message board. They do show up
in My Yahoo, but when you click on them to view from My Yahoo, the
messages don't come up.  Last night if you clicked on a new message from
within "messages" it took you back to the top 40 list.  This morning
though I can read posts from within messages.

Confused?  I am!

The two files posted today represent some of the current settings in
CFC_Experimental. The point is to provide a record of what is so you
won't feel guilty about altering some of the settings, experimenting
with the customization features, or have to worry about how to reset
them to current once you are are finished. You can do it, or you
can call for help and we'll do it. We really do want you to play
around in here and get a good feel for things. And, finding out where
you may need a little extra help is a good idea.

If this is a group, then Yahoo! will take care of it. The former eGroup had
a process whereby it would test the e-mail address and then delete the
membership if it found that the address was no longer valid. The new
process, as you can tell from the conversion information we had in last
month's newsletter, allows for several backup addresses to be tried before
action is taken against membership. That, of course, presupposes that the
member entered backup addresses.

Another alternative: You might try posting a notice on the message board
which will be seen when the people in question access via interface.
Otherwise, there's not much you can do unless you have an alternate e-mail
address for those in question.

If you do have an alternate e-mail address--and here I am a little
sketchy--I think you can change it in the lists. For sure, you can write
them a personal note and inform them of the problem. However, if these have
been long time lurkers, the exercise might be pointless.

Cross posted

hello everyone
I am sending this to everyone as this one is really going around. Problem is that the one program is on win 98 and so people are believing it.

SULFNBK.EXE IS A HOAX!!!

Howdy there,

HOAX WARNING ISSUED BY SHORTY ON:  30 May, 2001
HOAX WARNING UPDATED BY SHORTY ON:

This is a HOAX WARNING from Shorty!
For subscribe and unsubscribe information see the bottom of this E-mail.

HOAX INFO

Several users of this anti-virus list have received the following warning, hence, I am sending you information mailer on this particular hoax.

Subject:

Virus Alert

Body:

It was brought to my attention yesterday that a virus is in circulation via email. I looked for it and to my surprise I found it on mine. .. please follow the directions and remove it from yours TODAY!!!!!!!

I do not know how long it has been on my computer, but no Virus software can detect it. It will become active on June 1, 2001. It might be too late by then. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus travels thru E-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command'folder. To find it and get rid of it off of your computer,do the following.

Go to the "START" button.
Go to "FIND" or "SEARCH"
Go to "FILES & FOLDERS"
Make sure the find box is searching the "C:" drive.
Type in; SULFNBK.EXE
Begin search.
If it finds it, highlight it.
Go to 'File' and delete it.
Close the find Dialog box
Open the Recycle Bin
Find the file and delete it from the Recycle bin
You should be safe.

The bad part is: You need to contact everyone you have sent ANY E-mail to in the past few months. Many major companies have found this virus on their computers. Please help your friends !!!!!!!!

DO NOT RELY ON YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE. McAFEE and NORTON CANNOT DETECT IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT BECOME A VIRUS UNTIL JUNE 1ST. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT OPEN THE FILE!!!

***REMEMBER the above information is UNTRUE!!!
This is just a SAMPLE of the HOAX!

Additional Comments:

There are several variations of the same message in english and other languages that are going around, but basically the message tells you about SULFNBK.EXE and gives you steps on how to remove it.  Do not follow the instructions.  SULFNBK.EXE is a file that is supposed to be included with your windows platform, it is a 'long filename' utility that allows you to recover 'long filenames' in your directories.

The file SULFNBK.EXE is a file that should normally be found 'uninfected' within the windows directories, however, the MAGISTR virus/worm is able to send out an infected version of this file.  Most up-to-date anti virus programs will easily find MAGISTR on an infected computer.  It is important to remember that if you do get a copy of SULFNBK.EXE forwarded to you in your e-mail, delete it without running the attachment.

VIRUS ALERT/WORST EVER ACCORDING TO CNN
PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by
Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) and by McAfee (www.mcafee.com) as the
most destructive ever! This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon
by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed. This virus simply
destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for
its functioning are stored. This virus acts in the following manner:

It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the
title "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as the supposed virtual card
is
opened, the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the
ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys
Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk.

Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York,
according to news broadcast by CNN .cnn.com/

http://www.cnn.com/).This alert was received by an employee of
Microsoft itself.

Also: Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus was
discovered recently.

If you receive an email called "An Internet Flower For You," do not
open it. Delete it right away!

This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your
computer. Your computer will not be able to boot up!!

So don't open any mails with subject:

"A Virtual Card for You."
As soon as you get the mail, delete it.

Please pass this mail to all of your friends. Forward this to
everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times
than not at all.

SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!

Brenda

I messed things up BAD!
I am (or rather, WAS) the moderator of a group call FreeAd18.
I had a certain e-mail address "linked" to my yahoo account, but I
wanted to link a different one. So I did.
But after I linked the different one, I went back and removed the old
one. That was stupid.
I lost membership to all the groups I was a part of (104, to be
exact).
I also lost membership to MY OWN GROUP. Not only am I not a moderator
there anymore, I am not even recognized as a MEMBER. And I can't
become a member, because all memberships require approval from the
moderator. The only problem is, the moderator has left the builing:-(

I've tried EVERYTHING. I've tried to re-link my old e-mail address to
my account. It won't let me. I've written Yahoo "customer service".
They have promtly responded with... NOTHING!!!:-)

So I guess I'm on my own here.
My e-group was growing at a rate of ten new members a day. But now it
isn't going anywhere, because there's no moderator to approve pending
members.
Can anybody HELP me?!
Sincerely,
Justin

Subject: Re: HELP!!!!!!

Dear justins_18,

Without being able to become a member of your group--join requires moderator
approval--I cannot get a very clear idea what may be happening. I have been
told that groups will continue without a moderator if the owner accidentally
deletes him-/herself. Albeit, that's not much of a help to you in the
present circumstances, it does explain the reason you cannot re-join. It
suggests, too, that even if you were able to re-join, the fact that you did
not or do not have a co-owner (some ID with powers and authority equal to
your own) would prevent you from gaining promotion back to your former level
of moderator status (it's one of the reasons we recommend a cofounder or
dummy co-owner).

Next question, were you actually deleted from your group? You should be
able to change your primary address with Yahoo! without deleting your ID. I
have done several times in the past few months without affect to my club
founder or group owner status. Did you convert your ID to a Yahoo! one
prior to this occurrence? Is it possible that you need to do this in order
for Yahoo! to accept the change you are attempting?

Have you verified your primary e-mail address? A non-verified address will
not show as member because Groups requires at least one verified address for
membership. Go to Account Info (upper right hand corner links), about
midway down the page you will see the e-mail address information which shows
your primary e-mail address and alternate addresses. All of the alternate
addresses will be listed as non-verified. Click the link below the address
to verify one of them. Then watch for a confirmation e-mail and follow the
instructions.

I see that your group was started on May 27, 2001, meaning that it is less
than a week old at present. If all else fails, you may obtain a list of
some of the members from their posts in your club (your message list is
unmoderated), start a new club, and invite these people to join.

Sincerely yours,
