This list has been compiled as an aid in procuring (and
sometimes making) historically accurate uniforms and equipment
for members of the Capitol Guards. Use this list in conjunction
with the Authenticity Guidelines.
New members should consult with their sponsor before making
any purchases, especially from the sutler tents at events, and
for items and vendors not addressed by this list. This list is
not only intended to help protect your pocketbook, but also to
help you better portray the typical Arkansas Confederate. We
have never met a vendor who, when directly asked, said his work
wasn't "authentic." Nonetheless, there is a lot of
inferior goods out there sold for the same (and often higher)
costs than museum-quality gear. Caveat
emptor.
Most of the vendors listed here make their goods on a "custom
order" basis. Nearly all have a high reputation for quality
on these items, and may already have a backlog of orders when
you contact them. So, we've attempted wherever possible to list
multiple vendors of the same or similar quality. Be patient...
most of these items are basically a work of art, and your order
will be well worth the wait when you receive your finely crafted
gear.

CLOTH & SEWING PATTERNS
In most cases, the least expensive path
to a quality jacket, trowsers, and/or shirt is to obtain a correct
pattern and cloth, and sew it yourself, or perhaps have a friend
who can sew. Here are sources for the patterns and materials
to establish your own mini-Confederate clothing depot...

BAYONET
Bayonets are best
purchased on-site at an event. Take your musket with you, and
get one that fits your weapon. Our experience with many mail-order
bayonets is that a proper fit is often a hit-and-miss thing.
Likewise, make sure that your bayonet fits in your scabbard.

AMMUNITION
Several vendors in the Little Rock/Central
Arkansas area offer black powder in 1 lb. cans. Do not try to substitute Pyrodex,
Pyrodex Pellets, or any other propellant. You want either FFFg
or FFg black powder. Refer to
your Camp of Instruction handbook for instructions and
materials for rolling your own cartridges.
