Hidden Gems Virtues Class

Offering free virtues classes for all children ages 3-5 Every Sunday from 11:30 – 12:30 Starting June 4th, 2006 The vision of the virtues project is to serve humanity by supporting the moral and spiritual development of children of all cultures. Why Virtues? - Each day of living with children brings fresh opportunities for guiding them at “teach-able moments” which pass quickly and may never come again. - The virtues class provides a framework and a language for making the most of these moments, and helping children to set goals. - To let the children know that they already possess virtues latent within themselves. These virtues are the hidden gems that need to be developed and worked on to reach their full potential. - When a child hears one of his or her virtues acknowledged, it awakens their awareness that they actually have this virtue, that acting on it is a choice, and that they can chose to practice this virtue in other situations. “I have this virtue. I can choose it, and I can use it”. - The Latin root of the word “virtue” is “virtus”, meaning strength, power, capacity, and energy. Class Structure: During this class, we will use quotes, songs, stories, plays, and drawings to convey the meaning and importance of one virtue each week. Meet the Teachers: Lia Gagyi - Currently working as an Au pair in Mountain View - Volunteers at Bing pre-school at Stanford University - Studied psychology in Romania - Volunteered at orphanages and pre-schools in Romania Tina Parvini - Currently working at Kindercare in Cupertino as head pre- school teacher - Has a BA in psychology with a minor in child development - Five years experience in child care settings Shomace Ighanian - Currently working at Western Montessori pre-school in Mountain View - Child care experience with her mother who had an in-home day care for seven years All three teachers have completed the virtues project training course.
