Chapter Two
--------

Liz pushed Maria into a chair in the backroom of the Crashdown. "So Michael said that he wanted to talk to you, did he say what about?" Liz was curious about what Michael's motives were towards Maria, she didn't want to see her friend being hurt over and over again by him. But if he actually wanted something with her, then she knew Michael would be perfect for Maria.

Maria sighed and shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know, I sort of cut him off and started to rant on him and I think I might have hurt his feelings, but I mean he would've hurt me again if I didn't stop something. Right?" She wanted a confirmation that walking away wasn't a bad idea.

Liz just looked at Maria for a moment before speaking. "Yeah, I mean I guess it was. He probably didn't want anything important anyways. Come on, your going home, I'll cover your shifts, I think you could use the rest of the day off." Liz practically shoved Maria out the door.

Michael sat in his room on his excuse for a bed. He had his foot tapping against the floor and he was absent-mindedly chewing on his nails. He was trying to decide what to do next with Maria. He was more convinced now more than ever that he should never have given her up. But the real problem was getting her back, that is assuming she wants him back. Maybe she never even wanted to talk to him again? Oh well, a man's got to try.

Why was it when he wanted his brain to work, it didn't want to. He wasn't going to do the usual flowers-candy approach. That was not his style at all. Suddenly a light bulb clicked in his head. "Hmm, that's an idea I suppose."

The next day at school started out as any other day at school would. The bell rang and people flooded into their classrooms like locus. Towards the end of 1st period Michael strode into the hallways of the school. No books or anything in his hands, he just stood against the walls of the hallway. The wall happened to be the one next to Maria's first period classroom.

::RING:: Fist period was out of session. Michael immediately saw Maria and grabbed her arm to pull her where he was.

"Michael what are you doing?" She tried to act like she wanted to be away from him; she tried harder than she had ever tried to do something to pull it off.

"Listen, I want you to come with me for awhile, I just want to show you something." He prayed she wouldn't put up a fight and would come with him.

Maria shook her head. "No, Michael, I can't. I have 2 quizzes and a test today. Besides, you're the type of person who skips class, not me. Besides, what ever happened to your brick wall theory? I thought you didn't want to be around me?"

He closed his eyes for a moment in frustration. "I didn't say I didn't want to be around you. I said that you make me into a pile of water instead of a wall, and I didn't want that, at the time." Why wasn't she understanding him?

She laughed, "Michael, that was like three weeks ago. So all of a sudden you've changed your mind, sorry I can't be there every single time your heart takes over every once in a while. I don't operate like that. See-ya later Michael." She started to walk away before he caught her arm again.

"Please, just come with me? It's not that far." His heart leapt when she nodded in agreement.

About a half an hour later they were driving down the lonesome roads of Roswell. "Is this your idea of 'not that far'? It seems to be it's pretty far. Not that far is like going to the supermarket, not driving all over the state." Maria turned at looked back outside the window.

Michael slowed the jeep down. Max had let him borrow it this morning; Michael promised he wouldn't do anything bad to it. "Cool yourself, we're here."

Maria rose in her seat to look out at where they were. "Here? What's here? A lot of sand and a cave? This looks like nowhere-ville"

Michael had already opened the door and stepped outside. "Come on." He told her as he watched her walk towards him.

"I still don't get where we are." She stated, looking around the deserted desert area.
