Later in the day…

Fatima yelled at the top of her lungs, “Nickkkk and Briannn.  Get your little white butts back in place.  We have only a couple days before your first show and you guys aren’t ready at all.  Let’s get it together.  I know you just got off the plane, but come on.”  “Race you Brian.”  Nick smiled and ran back onto the rehearsal stage. “You cheater. That’s not fair.”  Brian walked back into his place and smacked Nick upside the head as he walked past him.  “Ouch man.  That hurt,” Nick whined.  Howie spoke up, “Enough of the antics guys.  Come on.  We got to get this right.”  Aj said, “Yeah he’s right.  You guys may not mind looking like some freaky dancers up here but I got a rep to keep up.”  Kevin just smiled and shook his head. “Fatima, what do you want us to do?” he asked sweetly.  “Thanks Kev.  We are going to try something a little different.  Kevin I want you up on the top pier.  I know it’s high, but it will give the look depth if we have all you guys at different levels.  You don’t expect Brian to be up there do you?”  Brian ran around the stage, “Noooo, don’t make me go up there.  I’m afraidddddd.”  Nick started laughing.  The stage guys put a ladder up and Kevin slowly climbed up ten feet to the top of the pier.  “Is this where you want me Fatima.” Kevin yelled down.  “That’s perfect Kevin.  OK, AJ and Brian you stay on the stage.  Howie on the second level. Nick on the third.  Perfect guys.  Great. All right. We are going to turn on the music and you guys start the routine. Great. Hit the music.”

The boys started the routine.  Fatima was clapping with the beat. “Go B-Rok, it’s your birthday.  Come on Kev. Attitude.  That’s right D.”  All the stage managers were watching.  They guys looked perfect.  All of a sudden Fatima screamed.  “Kevin watch out. The light.” Just then a ceiling light fell and hit Kevin.  The force pushed him of the top tier and he fell and crumpled to the floor.  Nobody moved for a second.  Then everyone moved at once to Kevin.  Brian got there first. “Kev, Kev can you hear me?  Come on Kev.”  Kevin was slowly breathing, and moving his arm slowly. “Bri, where are you man?”  Brian grabbed his, “I’m right here man. Don’t worry.”  Just then Kevin passed out.  Fatima screamed..  One of the managers called out,  “AJ call the ambulance.” AJ ran of to get his cell phone. Nick and Howie stood in the corner out of the way quietly talking.  Fatima walked over and joined them  “You think he’s dead Howie?  That would be awful.”  Howie smiled carefully, “Nick he’ll be fine. I hope. We’ll see how it goes.  All we can do is pray.”  Fatima sat on the floor and began to cry, “I just wanted him to dance up there.  I’m sorry.” Nick and Howie consoled her, while AJ came back into the room yelling, “The ambulance is on the way guys.  I got it covered.  I’m the man with the plan.”  AJ looked around at everyone looking at him and he decided that now was not the time to be funny.  Ten minutes later the ambulance pulled up.  “We got a call here.  A person fell or something?” the medic questioned.  “Yeah, over here.” Brian yelled. “Come quick please. He’s unconscious.”  The medics hurried over and put a brace around Kevin’s neck.   Kevin slowly opened his eyes. “Bri.  Where are you man?” Kevin asked again, slowly coming in and out of consciousness.  “Kevin, I’m right here.  Right here man.  These guys are taking good care of you.” Brian said.  The medics carefully placed Kevin on the rollaway bed and loaded him up into the ambulance. “Who’s coming?  I can’t fit you all.”  The guys looked around.  Brian spoke up first, “ We can’t all go with Kevin so none of us will go. We’ll all go in Kevin’s car and follow you to the hospital.  He’s the one who drove us here today.”  The medics got in the ambulance and drove towards the hospital.

Brian ran into the dressing rooms and found Kevin’s keys.  “Please be alright Kevin.  I can’t lose another one.”  He rounded up the rest of the guys and assured Fatima that they would call as soon as they found out some info on Kevin.  “Let’s go guys.  Get your stuff and head towards Kevin’s car.”  Brian said.  Nick jumped up and down, “All right. Kev’s car. Lets take it joy riding.  He’ll never know.”  Howie, Brian, and AJ all turned around and said, “Shut up Nick.”  Brian gave him a stern look, “Now is not the time Nick.”  Nick put his head down, “I know. Sorry. You know how I get now around bad stuff.  There’s been so much this year.”  Brian smiled and said, “I know man.  Keep you head up.”  They all loaded up in the car and headed towards the hospital in silence.  Fatima watched them drive away, hoping and praying that there would be good news.

At the hospital…

“Man, another crazy day today.  Can’t even breath.  It must be the cold weather.  All these colds and this flu bug going around.” Austin stopped talking and looked over to see if Kelly was still listening.  She wasn’t. She was looking at the ceiling in her own little world. “Hellooo?  Are you there?  What’s up with you?” Austin asked concerned. “What oh, nothing.  Just thinking about stuff, but around here I don’t get much time to think.” Kelly said.  “Did you have a bad run this morning?” Austin questioned. Kelly said quickly turning her head to stare Everett straight into the eyes.  “What did you say?  About my run?” Austin stammered, “I, uh, I asked if anything bad happened on your run this morning?  Just askin’ girl. Chill out. Just looking out for you.”  Kelly paused and then shook her head.   “Thanks, though, I’m fine.”  Austin looked at her and said, “Yeah okay, whatever.  Look, there’s a patient in trauma room 1.  He’s got a bad bump on his head and he needs massive stitches.   He fell of a stage or something. Can you sew him up for me?  I got a kid with a broken leg over on the other side. Oh, his friends are in the waiting area.”  Austin walked off before Kelly even answered. “Yeah sure.  I’ll take your patient jackass.”
She walked over to Trauma Room One slowly, thinking about how weird things were happening today.  “Austin never asks how my run is and the one day it goes wrong, he’s asking about it. Whatever. On to the next patient. Who the hell falls off a stage?””  She pushed open the door and looked at the guy lying in the bed. She sucked in a big breath after a few seconds.  She had forgotten to breathe.
