Kelly pulled into her terrace, and looked up to the second floor of her apartment. There were lights on and she saw a shadow walking behind the closed curtains. “Who the hell is that?” Kelly began laughing as she pulled her Jeep into her driveway and into the garage and turned her car off. She had completely forgotten about Madison. Her red 4 Runner was right there next to the Jeep. “Man, I am paranoid lately. I hope Madison’s got something good for us to do tonight.” Kelly walked up her stairs and unlocked her door. As she walked in Riley came barking and jumping. Kelly bent down and dropped her purse and keys on the bench. She bent down and calmed the excited dog. “Riley, where’s Madi?” Just then, Madison walked into the living room. “Hey, girl. How was your day? God I have so much to tell you, and I did so much today and I have a surprise for you and we are going out tonight…” Kelly got up from her knees and smiled, “Madison. Take a breath. I couldn’t even understand you.” Kelly and Madison walked farther into the room. Kelly walked over to the TV and turned on ESPN and plopped onto the couch. “Oh no you don’t! All you do is sit around and watch basketball. I made dinner and then we are going dancing!” Madison pulled Kelly off the couch and into the kitchen. “Dinner is ready now. Riley has been fed. It’s 9:00 now. That gives us two hours to eat, shower and get ready for tonight.” Madison set Kelly down at the dinner table. The table was set nicely with two place settings. “Madison, just one question. How did you know where everything is? You’ve only been here one day.” Madison came out of the kitchen with two plates of chicken teriyaki and white rice. She laid one down in front of Kelly and the other plate across from her. Madison simply said, “Rehearsals got cancelled because of the snow.” Kelly leaned over the table, “Well, now that I’m seated. Are you going to tell me about the rest of your day. I’m mean god, you were rambling on and on in the entry way.” The girls began eating. Madison took a sip of water, “Well, after you and I said goodbye at the mall I drove off to rehearsals. When I got there the director, Donatella, told us that not every one could show because of the snow, so she cancelled it, and then I came back home and kept unpacking and I got familiar your place…”
Kelly looked down at her plate and started playing with her chicken. Madison noticed, “What? What it is?” Kelly looked up, “Well, it’s just that, you know, if you just came home, then you didn’t ask if you could…” Madison jumped up from the table and ran up to her room. She yelled from the top of the spiral staircase. “You thought I forgot, huh, well, I’m your best friend and I would never forget.” Kelly heard the rumbling as Madison came charging down the stairs and back into the dining area. Before she came to the table Madison said, “Close your eyes. It’s a surprise.” Kelly’s smile was as big as it could be. “You didn’t forget, did you!! You remembered!!!” “Okay, open them.” Kelly opened them and in front of her Madison was standing with a beautiful dress. It was paten leather. Like the shoes. Shiny and slick. It tied around the neck and had silver rhinestones around all the edges. There were two slits all the way up both legs. The back and sides were completely open. It would show her lean stomach perfectly. Madison pulled the plastic bag over the dress. Kelly couldn’t say anything. The dress was perfect. “Oh Madi, you’re the best. I knew you wouldn’t forget. Why did they let you have such a beautiful dress?” Madison smiled at her friend’s surprisement. “I am the promotion model you know. I can do anything I want. I want Wednesday night to be perfect and it will only be perfect if you are happy and beautiful.” “Thank you so much. It will be perfect and I know that we will have a great time.” Kelly took the dress from Madison and carefully put the bag back over the dress and laid it over the couch in the living room. The girls sat back down to dinner and finished quickly. After a little more chatting they got up and cleaned the dishes. Madison did the dishes, but noticed that Kelly hadn’t eaten much again. “Just like this morning. She hardly eats. No wonder she’s so skinny.” It was now 10:00. The girls were sitting on the couch watching FRIENDS. Madison had Riley in her lap. She turned to find Kelly asleep. Her head down on her chest, peacefully quiet. “Maybe I shouldn’t wake her. We can always go another night. God, she looks dead. If this is all she does, though, every night, I have got to get her back into the swing of things. We’ve got an hour and a half before Studio 54 opens and have to be there our else the bookie will lose Versace’s reservations. Yep, it’s time to get her up.” Madison swung her long legs out from under and turned the TV off. Riley woke up quickly when Madison got up. She leaned carefully over to Kelly and gently shook her. Kelly rolled her head and slowly opened her eyes. “Time to go already? I’m not ready yet. I can’t go like this,” she said sleepily.
Madison laughed, “No silly. You’ve only been asleep for 15 minutes. Let’s get ready. We’ve only got an hour to be there. I have another surprise too. Come on. Come upstairs with me and I’ll give you an outfit that won’t be missed. You are gonna have all the hotties tonight girl!!” The girls left the living with Riley at their heels. They all went upstairs and into Madison’s bedroom. “Sit on the bed there and I’ll put it out for you.” Kelly and Riley hopped on the bed. They watched as Madison rummaged through her closet. “Madison, don’t you think that you have enough? You can’t even find what you’re looking for.” Madison went farther into the closet. “Ah ha. Here it is. From the show over in China.” She came out of the closet with a gorgeous silk triangle cut tank top. It was green Chinese silk with red and blue and silver printed dragons and it too, had no back. The straps criss-crossed in the back. It came to a point right above the stomach. Along with it Madison had pulled out a pair of tight worn jeans. The outfit was not complete though. Madison laid the outfit on the bed and went back into the closet. She pulled out a pair of velvet straw throng Chinese sandals. “There. How do you like it? I don’t care if you don’t, because I want you to wear it. Now go change.” Kelly was speechless. “You want me to wear this. No, it’s too beautiful. I might ruin it.” “You are my best friend Kelly. My stuff is your stuff. Now come on. I wanna do your make up for you.” “Madison, I’m not a baby. I can do my own makeup. I still do live in this world you know. I know you think that I am completely cut off, but I still pay attention. Thank you very much for the clothes. If we have to be there in an hour we better hurry. Wait, you didn’t even tell me where we’re going. Where are we going?” “We have special guest passé, care of Versace, to the famous Studio 54, dance club choice of the celebrities!!” Kelly jumped up and down. “Ok. I’ll hurry. That’s about 30 minutes from here so that gives us half an hour to get ready. Let’s go.” Kelly and Riley ran down the staircase back into their room. Madison pulled out her outfit and walked towards her bathroom. She stopped as she passed the open trap door of the staircase. She listened carefully, and then smiled hen she realized what she had heard. Kelly was singing. Madison shook her head and headed off into her bathroom.
Kelly was so happy. Her best friend was in town and now finally she had a girl to party with. They were going to have so much fun tonight. She carefully took of her clothes and pulled on the tight leather pants. She took of her bra, because there was no way that she could wear one with the top that Madison had picked out. She put the tank on and carefully adjusted the straps. She looked into her bathroom mirror. “Wow, I never thought that I could pull this outfit off, but I guess I can.” She twirled around and around smiling. The pants fit her curves perfectly, and the green top barely covered her tan hard belly. The triangle cut of the tank hit just above her belly button. Kelly smiled as she looked at herself in the mirror, but the smile left when she saw that her white scar showed a little where the tank didn’t cover it up. “I don’t care. Get over it.” She plugged in her hair crimper and while it heated up she did her makeup. She carefully applied beautiful shimmering powder and mascara. When she was done, she was pleased. She looked beautiful with the light shimmery makeup. The crimper bleeped so she started to crimp her hair. It was wild and full when she was done. “Man, I look like a witch with this hair. I’ll just pull it up.” She pulled her wild crimped hair into a high pony tail. “Perfect.” She gently spritzed some Clinique Happy perfume behind her ears and one spritz in her hair. It was 10:45. “Madison, let’s go. We’ll be late.” Madison called from upstairs, “Give me ten more.” Kelly shook her head as she and Riley walked into the formal living room. “Models always have to be late don’t they Riley?” Kelly sat down at the baby grand and just sat there. Riley walked under and laid his head on Kelly’s feet. Kelly sat looking out her snowy windows. “I just can’t shake the feeling Riley. First the guy following us on our run this morning and then the weird way that Austin acted all day today, and then how Kevin said some guy screamed at him and I think it was Austin. What is going on with him? I’ve got to let it go, for Madison’s sake. I don’t want to bog her down with my problems. She’s so good and kind to me. And she’s so busy. No more problems for her. But at least I met singer stars today. Kevin is so gorgeous. He almost makes me want to start living again. But when am I ever going to see him again. Never Riley. Never.” Kelly leaned down and petted Riley. “No more problems.” Kelly hadn’t heard Madison come down the stairs, but Madison had just heard everything that Kelly had just said to Riley. She turned and ran back upstairs so that Kelly wouldn’t know that she was there. Kelly turned away from the piano and the window. “Madiiisooon, let’s go.” Madison came charging down the stairs. “Okay, okay. I’m ready. How do I look?” She twirled around in front of Kelly. She had on a shiny pick tube top with silver pants on. She looked great. Her makeup was girly pink and her hair was curled and put up with chopsticks. Kelly whistled and said, “Okay, how do I look?” It was now Kelly’s turn to twirl in front of her friend. Madison was in awe as she looked at her friend. “You’re beautiful. I love the hair and makeup and all of it. You’re perfect. Just perfect. Are we ready to party?????” Both girls yelled and ran for the door. The grabbed their Northfaces, said goodbye to Riley and locked the door. They hopped into Kelly’s Jeep and were off to Studio 54 in the snowy night.
