Back in Kevin’s Room… Kelly quietly pushed the door open. Kevin was sleeping again. “I won’t wake him”, she thought to herself. She put on her rubber gloves and drew the sheet back. His chest was bare. She breathed in deep again. “Oh my lord. What a chest.” Kelly shook her head. “I have to got think of my work, not drooling over it.” Kelly took a quick look again and then continued on. “I’ll start here,” looking at the gash on his shoulder. Kelly worked with careful hands. She stitched carefully. Kevin stirred slightly under her hands, but kept sleeping. “He’s so perfect.” She looked at his resting eyes and his lips and his nose. His hair looked so soft. He looked so peaceful sleeping. Kelly could not believe that she was drooling over this celebrity. “In an half an hour he’ll be gone and I’ll never see him again.” It took sixteen stitches to cover the gash on Kevin’s shoulder. Just as she was cutting the extra thread Kevin woke. Kelly noticed his vivid green eyes immediately. “Well, hello sleepy head. Decide to keep me company?” Kevin smiled and answered, “Sorry for my dozing ma’am. I just can’t keep awake. Wow, you stitched that shoulder up fast. I didn’t even feel it.” “Good, a gash that bad can usually kill, but it took 15 minutes, you were just asleep.” Kelly loved his accent He is so sexy. Kevin spoke up again, “So how are the guys holdin’ up? They usually stress out a lot of the time over stuff.” Kelly smiled and answered quietly, “Oh, you mean the Backstreet Boys?” Kevin groaned and looked the other way. “Good going guys, ruin my chances even before I talk to her,” he said to himself. He said out loud to Kelly, “So I guess you know then huh? I try to keep I to keep it on the down low when I meet new doctors.” Kelly looked confused, “Just doctor’s you meet?” Kevin laughed, “Well, I seem to have a habit of ending up in the hospital while on tour. A couples of tours ago I had to have an emergency appendectomy. Seems I can’t stay away from hospitals. Brian out there has been in the hospital like all his life. He has congenital heart failure. Oh god, I am rambling on aren’t I? Sorry.” Kelly smiled, “Oh, it’s fine. I kind of got lost in your voice. I mean, uh, your story. I still have to stitch up your stomach.” Kelly got up from her stool embarrassed, and set up the suture needle again. Kevin smiled as she turned, “She likes me.” As she got up she felt Kevin’s eyes on her back. She came back with the needle and sat back down. “Okay, the gash on your stomach is pretty big so I am going to put your bed flat so that your stomach is flat. It might make your head feel a little woozy, but that’ll clear.” She carefully set his bed back and lifted the sheet back. Kevin put his arms behind his head and smiled. “This is the life. A beautiful women working on my stomach,” he thought to himself. Kelly looked at him and said, “Comfortable? Good, this one might hurt a little more because your IV drip is wearing off, so just tell me and I can give you a pain shot. All right? Here we go.” Kelly carefully inserted the needle through his tan skin. He flinched a little, “That hurt?” He mumbled, “I can take it. I’m a man.” She laughed, “How about I talk to you? It’ll keep your mind of the pain. First, I don’t even know how you did this to yourself. I heard that you fell off stage or something.” Kevin smiled, “Well, Dr. Riley. I just happened to be practicing choreography on a ten foot high tier when a light fell from the ceiling and hit me and knocked me off. I fell to the ground and this is how I ended up. Can’t tell you much more cause’ frankly I don’t remember. Now, I answered your question, you answer mine. Where’s your accent from? You sound like you’re from the south.” Kelly blushed and she didn’t know why. “Please call me Kelly. Not that I’ll see you again. But for now it’s Kelly. And about my accent. I am from Kentucky. I was born and raised there and my parents still there to this day.” Kevin sat right up, causing the needle to go in farther than Kelly had hoped it would. “Ouccchhhhh, man that smarts.” Kevin cried. Kelly looked at him oddly, “What did you do that for?” Kevin laid back down, “I am also from Kentucky. Home grown, and my family still lives there. Brian out there is my cousin. He’s from Kentucky too. I just can’t believe that we were raised in the same state and didn’t know each other. It’s not that big. I’m from around Lexington. Where are you from?” Kelly eyes got big, “Lexington! That’s where I’m from too!!! What a coincidence.” Kelly shook her head and smiled. She cut off the extra strings and placed a gauze strip over the wound. “There, you’re done. Now, it’s Wednesday, and you have to keep these stitches in for at least two weeks, And from what I hear, that means that you will have to perform in two concerts, and one modeling show. Am I right?” Kevin looked astonished, “Man, how much do you know about me girl?” “Just what your ‘boys’ have told me. Anyways, change the gauze and keep it clean. You can perform and model but keep it on the down low as you say. If you pop the stitches you’ll have to come back, okay? If all goes well you can come back in two weeks and have a nurse take them out safely for you. And please. No more dancing on ten foot tiers. I wouldn’t want to have to see you again because of an injury. Not that I don’t like talking to you or anything.” Kevin thought to himself, “These stitches are coming out tonight if I have to take them out myself.” Kelly thought to herself, “I can’t believe that I am out right flirting with this man I hardly now.” Kevin smiled and answered, “Yes Doctor. I understand. I’ll stay quiet for a while. Well, it’s been nice talking to you and thanks for stitching me up good. Maybe I’ll see you around town. Oh man. I can’t come back to this hospital for my stitches. We leave on Friday for the next town.” Kevin saw Kelly’s smile leave her face, “Oh, well any hospital can take the stitches out. It was very nice meeting you. Good luck with your tour and stay healthy please. It sounds like you have had enough injuries. I’ll have a nurse bring you your clothes so you can get out of this place and they’ll bring the others back.” Kelly and Kevin shook hands, but couldn’t break the staring that both of them were doing. Kelly finally broke it. “Damn,” she thought to herself. “Well goodbye.” She turned quickly and left out the door. She called a nurse and told her to bring around Kevin’s clothes and bring his friends back. As Kelly walked by the front desk she didn’t see Austin staring at her coldly. “If it’s flirting she wants, it’s flirting she’s going to get.” |
