Scene Four![]() Howie lay on his side watching her sleep peacefully next to him. Her hair was spread over the pillow, a few strands covering her face. The curtains were open and in the light of the breaking dawn he could see her features relaxed and soft as she slept. She looked as innocent as a child at that moment. He smiled. Last night had been everything but innocent. He should have expected that after dancing with her. Gently he reached out to touch her face. He didn't want to wake her but he couldn't resist touching the strands of hair that had fallen across her eyes. She sighed and shifted but didn't wake. He bent down and dropped a kiss on her forehead. This time she did wake. Her eyelids fluttered and then she slowly opened them. "Morning," she mumbled sleepily. "Morning sexy," he replied smiling at her. She turned onto her side to face him. "How late is it?" "Don't worry. It's real early, dawn is only just breaking." "Good." She stretched out her arm and pulled him towards her. "Hey," he chuckled. "You're not even awake yet!" "Then why don't you wake me up?" ![]() A while later they lay together watching the sunrise outside her window before they drifted off to sleep again. Her alarm woke them again and both reached out for it at the same time. Laughing Rowena snuggled up to him, resting her head on his shoulder. "Breakfast?" he asked, running his fingers through her curls. She sighed. "I suppose so." Gently he pulled his arm from underneath her. "I'll go have a shower and change. Pick you up in say an hour?" Rowena nodded and watched him as he dressed. She smiled. "What?" he asked, seeing her smile. "Nothing. I was just thinking that you look just as good without clothes as you do when you're dressed." "Well, I have to return that compliment." He knelt on the bed and kissed her softly. His fingers traced the outline of her face. "I'll see you in a bit." Stopping at the door he turned and gave her a wink, grinning cheekily. Rowena chuckled. She'd heard stories about that notorious wink. Poor Angela! After he'd left she slowly got up herself and had a shower. As the warm water rushed over her skin she thought that she had never felt so alive. She dressed carefully, choosing something that would be comfortable for the journey and look good. She finished packing her suitcase and wondered if she would ever see him again. Probably not, she decided. He must have a million girls to choose from all over the world and there was no real reason why he should want to see her again specifically. But she hoped that he would remember their time together and maybe think of her when he returned for his next vacation. The knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. When she opened she found him with a huge smile all over his face. "Oh oh. Does that look mean you've had some crazy idea?" "Maybe." "Come on tell me!" she laughed. "I was just thinking that since you still have a few hours before you get picked up, we could go to the village for breakfast." "Great idea!" She reached for his hand and pulled him towards the elevator. "Let's not waste any time then." This time they walked the short stretch into the village, holding hands all the way. They found a small café by the square and sat outside to have breakfast. Both of them avoided talking about the fact that Rowena would be leaving in a few hours. They just wanted to enjoy their time together. They watched as life began to stir and when the first stalls opened Howie disappeared suddenly, saying that he had forgotten something. He returned a short while later holding a paper bag but refused to tell Rowena what was in it. Too soon it was time for them to head back to the hotel. While she went to her room to pick up her bags, Howie excused himself, saying that he just wanted to drop off his secret bag. When Rowena arrived back in the lobby, he was already there waiting for her. Among the group of people being picked up were some who recognized Howie and approached him for an autograph or a photo. He obliged, switching into his professional mode and Rowena stood back watching him. He was calm and charming, making every one feel as if they were the most important person to him. Suddenly she wondered if he'd been treating her the same way without her noticing. At that point he looked up at her and smiled a slow, sexy smile and she returned it. No, she wasn't just another admirer to him. ![]() The bus pulled up in front of the hotel and Howie came back to her. Picking up her bags he walked her to the bus. Everyone started filing in and Rowena turned to him to say good-bye. "I can't think of any good line from a movie right now. I always skip the good-bye scenes." Rowena chuckled. "I know the feeling. How about: Thanks for yesterday Howie and this morning. I had a great time." He stepped towards her putting his arms around her. "Yes, thank you for yesterday and this morning." He bent his head and kissed her deeply. Cheers went up around them and they pulled apart laughing. He handed her an envelope with her name written on the front. "What's this?" she asked intrigued. "You'll find out," he smiled. "But promise me you won't open it before you get to the airport." "Alright. I promise." She looked up into his deep brown eyes. "Good-bye Howie." "Good-bye Rowena." Quickly she turned and boarded the bus. "The end?" she thought as the bus moved off. ![]() Scene 5Scene 3 Table of Contents Hosted Stories ![]() ![]() |
