Think of Me
As Brenda sat beside her mother
under the umbrella at the funeral services
for her Daddy, she couldn't cry.
Her mind drifted to some of the good times
she had with him.
And she knew he wouldn't leave her
like that! He just couldn't they were too close. She came back to reality not because she wanted to but because she heard her mother saying her name. The services were over and she hadn't heard a word.
On the way home she didn't say a thing, her mother was worried. Brenda was an only child and her Daddy had spoiled her and idolized her. This was devastating for all of them, but worse for Brenda. Once they were home Brenda went to her room and changed her clothes. As she sat on her bed she remembered what her Daddy had told her "Brenda honey, I won't leave without saying goodbye, I PROMISE!"...But he had! He had she thought.
She went downstairs and sat in his favorite chair. Her mother came over and kneeled down beside her. "Honey do you want to talk about it?" "Well", Brenda said with trembling lips, Daddy promised he would never go away without saying goodbye. "Oh Honey, he couldn't help help it this time!" "Brenda, he was sick and he didn't know it. He had to leave and he can't come back" she said as the tears streamed down her face. "Brenda, it's hard for you to understand because you're so young, but Daddy is dead. I am sure he wanted to say goodbye".
Brenda couldn't accept this! Day after day Brenda went out in the yard and waited for her Daddy. She knew he would come home. But a year and a half passed and it was Brenda's 7th birthday and her daddy still hadn't come home. Her mother had planned a party for her but Brenda didn't care, all she wanted was her Daddy!
Brenda got dressed in her party dress and went to the yard and sat down. As she sat there hot bitter tears rolled down her cheeks. Then she heard him! "Brenda darling, It's me, Daddy" and she looked up and there he stood, looking down at her. "DADDY, DADDY! you came back just like I knew you would!" "But Brenda, I can't stay, I've got to go back but I wanted to say I love you, Happy Birthday! and goodbye".
"But daddy, she cried, PLEASE stay it's not the same without you here and I'm scared without you here!" "Brenda dry your tears and listen. If there is ever a time you need me just close your eyes and think of me and I'll be there." Then he was gone. Brenda sat there a little while and then went inside and enjoyed her birthday party. And she knew her Daddy would never be very far away!
In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, there you may be also. John 14.2
