On October 16, two weeks after I saw a pup using a mother as a plate and another pup getting fish tossed to it by its mother, I saw the mother take a different attitude to her pups. In the next clip you can see the mother keep a fish for herself, turning away from her pup. They have to go after the fish themselves. One pup looks rather sad that life has come to that point, but another seems to manage quite well. I was very close to these otters, crouched behind a rock just off the edge of the pond.
