Blokhead Bio

Blokhed was formed in 1995 by two very long-time friends and bandmates, Shane Barnett (guitars, vocals) and Daniel Wilson (drums). Shane had played in previous bands with Daniel since 1988, Morbid Violence being the most successful of that genre. Shane went on for a few years to form a band called Abattor (formed rougly in 1990). Abattor later turned into Emotion Zero, a very hate-filled industrial band. After long talks with Daniel about doing a new "side project" Blokhed was formed and soon after Shane left Emotion Zero to form Blokhed as the full-time band. It was put together as an idea of the ugliest, rawest sludge/grind that could be put together.

Making a 5 song demo at Rehearsal Studios called "Force Fed Fucking Hate" which sold a ton of copies at the time and never re-pressed. After that demo got around former abattor vocalist Dejay Perrry (now of Indy's hardcore Amongst the Swarm) heard the demo and wanted to be a part of the equation. We brought him in and he did vocals for a while doing another demo with re-done songs off of the "Force Fed Fucking Hate" demo and a few new ones. They just weren't the raw sound we were shooting for at that time. In between this time Blokhed picked up their only bassist ever, Nick Handy who is still a very good friend and supporter of ours, but he had to later quit due to raising his children and having the family life (much respect to him).

Blokhed bagan to work with a lot of songs and playing various shows but the vocals just weren't going perfect with the music and the crowd, they were mainly nu-metal korn kids. After not working out Dejay left the band (as almost a mutual decision, he couldn't do what we were needing and what wanted to do we didn't want). So for a month and a half or so we worked out our newer songs with Shane singing only with more extreme death metal style. After that time a long-time friend and death metal lover Doug Matthews joined up and did vocals for at least 7 months. We played a few shows with him and when later after we went to do our four song demo (which he still is featured on a few parts on that) he didn't sound right all the time and he wasn't remembering lyrics after 7 months. He was also getting a job which would keep him from being able to play out all the time.
