In today’s world almost every family with kids has a family pet. Whatever pet it may be, it becomes just like another child or family member. Birds are commonly among these family pets, especially budgies and cockatiels. Any family that mixes birds and kids has a few extra things to consider that they never may have thought of! Every day you should be spending time with your bird outside his cage. However, it is sometimes hard to figure out fun things to do that entertain and exercise you and your bird. I have prepared a list of things that you can do with your bird every day! Paper Towel Tube Treadmill- This is a nice little exercise to work those little legs! Stand your bird on a paper towel tube and turn it slowly so that he has to walk to keep from falling. Then slowly make it go faster and faster (not too fast) to test your birds limit! I love this exercise especially for all those wing clipped birds; it gives them some exercise when they cannot fly around to keep fit. Playgyms-Having a playgym is a must for a bird that is outside of its cage a lot. The first time my budgie got on his playgym he could not wait to get out of his cage the next day! Flyers-Even wing-clipped birds can have fun with flyers! You can do this with one or two people. Have your bird first climb from one finger to the next, shaking your hand a little so they will step off. Then spread your hand gradually further apart so that your bird will have to hop then flap a little to get across. Soon you will have your bird flying from finger to finger. Hope these are a few ideas you will like to use and also give you a few ideas of your own! |
