Backstage with TUTS

/user/tutsnp.jpg

The Houston Post ran this photo in their entertainment section on Sunday, September 10, 1978. It was under the headline, TUTS at 10.

This photo is of some of the cast of South Pacific 1976
The chubby guy in the straw hat is me.
That is Kevin Kooney (you might have seen him in the movies
Independance Day or A Trip to Bountiful) as Billis, Debby Teare as Nellie, Gerry Berkhardt (went on to Broadway in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas) is on his knees, beside me with the holes in his hat is Randy Rudy (who is now in many TV commercials, ie: Payless Shoes and Windex).

Each night I was recruited to draw the famous battle ship tatoo on Billis'  tummy. Kevin and I got to know each other a little better.

Bloody Mary, Leiat and me.

Putting on all that body makeup was a bitch. Washing it off was too.

I got to try on quite a few costumes. That's me as an Opera goer as the show opens, then as a peasant on the streets. Not shown, I was a butler at the races and a flower peddler.
