Simple Name Animation, Page 2
Step 6 Time to make your layers! First, name your current layer. Go to Layers > Properties and enter smokey for the layer name and then press OK.

Step 7 Go to Layers > Duplicate. You've just made a copy of your smokey layer. To make it easier to keep track of the layers, name this one s. Go to Layers > Properties and change the name to "s" and press OK.
Step 8 Go to Layers > Duplicate and then Layers > Properties and change the name to "m". Continue, until you have made layers for s, m, o, k, e, and y. Your layer palette should look like this:

Step 9 See the little eyeglasses for each layer? That shows whether or not the layer is visible. Click on the eyeglasses for each layer except for s. Click on the bar with the s, but not on the eyeglasses, to make it your active layer.

Go back to your image, it should look like this. The s shows that your active layer is the s layer.

Step 10 Make sure you are zoomed in so that you can see the edges of the letters clearly. Choose the freehand selection tool:

With the freehand selection tool set on Point to Point, select the "S" in your image. While the ants are marching, go to Selections > Invert and press Delete. Press CTRL-D to deselect. All you should have left on this layer is the "S":

Step 11 Go to layer palette, click on the eyeglasses of the s layer to turn off its visibility. Click on the eyeglasses of the m layer to make it visible. Click on the bar for the m layer to make it active. Return to your image, making sure you see that little m that shows that you are on the m layer. Use the freehand tool to select the m, go to Selections > Invert and then Delete, press CTRL-D to deselect. You should just have the m now on this layer. Continue with each layer, making sure only your active layer is visible each time.
