Becoming Pagan

So you've decided you'd like to follow a Pagan path...but how do you become Pagan? The answer is simple: you already are! The moment you decide, you've already taken that first step - you are Pagan, albeit a very new and and most likely confused one. This step is often the one that requires the most thought and consideration, and if at any point you change your mind, you can easily back off this particular path. I first decided to become a Pagan when I discovered that one of my friends was Wiccan. I was curious. I wanted to know more. It was only when I started to look into it and research it that I discovered that all the beliefs fitted in with what I already believed. It felt so right. It was just me.

As for learning about all the Pagan festivals, rituals, spells, correspondences, and all the great wealth of material that goes hand in hand with the religion, do n't worry. It will come with time. The learning of such material is a journey that each of us undertake throughout the remainder of our lives. It is impossible to know it all. Just take your time, start to read books and websites like this one, and maybe find a Pagan group in your area. Others will be happy to help you out!

As a symbol of this major shift in the direction of their lives, many people like to choose a Pagan name for themselves. This is not a normal name, but one that you can choose to represent exactly who you feel you are. It’s something that many Pagans now do. Take as much time as you like to choose yours; do not feel that you must choose it immediately. Of course, you don't have to choose one at all if you prefer!

Eventually, you’re going to want to seek out other Pagans. Unfortunately, this is the tricky part. Many new Pagans feel isolated and don’t know where to start looking. However, help is at hand!

The internet is a wonderful invention, and will solve all your problems. One website I highly recommend is The Witch’s Voice, which will have personal and group listings for your area. Many pagan groups also have a Yahoo! Group. This is another great way to get in contact with other pagans and find events to go along to in your area.

Don’t be afraid to make the first move when contacting others. We’ve all been there and know how it feels! You’ll soon make friends, and this will greatly help you in your learning, for as you continue to research things, you will find parts that you do not understand and you will want to ask questions about. Others can help give you advice, answer questions, and offer words of knowledge.

I wish you all the best in your chosen path.
