That orb'd maiden With white fire laden... Whom mortals call the Moon ~ Author unknown |

The Moon's influence can be seen in Her pull on the tides, Her control of the female menstrual cycle, even to the breeding and traveling of animals. Lunar energy is generally seen as feminine, although some cultures had or have Moon Gods. Pagans see the Moon as the symbolic face of the Goddess, and revere Her with monthly rituals of celebration and magick working. Just as the face of the Moon waxes and wanes, so too do all living things thrive and wither in their season. But renewal is just moments away, and always does the Moon return to Her fullness. |

The Moon travels through her full cycle in approximately 29.4 days. There are specific types of magick commonly associated with each phase. Waxing Moon (New Moon on towards Full) is for working magick to bring about fresh starts, new beginnings; and as the Moon nears fullness, the energy increases. Full Moon is for getting things done, love magick, healing, and making things manifest that you have been building toward. It is a time of high energy, high emotion, high expectations. Waning Moon is from Full down to the Dark Moon. and is used for "banishing" spells, getting rid of bad habits, protecting from unwanted forces, and generally cleaning out undesirable things. These are generalizations, and the phases of the Moon's energy in relation to spell-casting are an intricate study. |
