More about Roque

Roque was born in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, in 16 August 1981. That day was actually a "fiesta" ( festival ) of "San Roque".

Roque went to Olimpia de Asuncion to play football by the recommendation of his friend. He was about 8 years old at that time.

By 1996, he had played for Olimpia de Asuncion for the Paraguayan first division ( of the football league ). People were surprised about that because he was only 15 years old. He started to dream about his future--to be a professional football player.

Roque's dream came true as time passed by. He once made his hat-trick against Velez Sarsfield, an Argentinian club with Chilavert as the goalkeeper. That was the quarter-final in Mercosur Cup, 1998.

Later, in 1999, he took part in several international youth tournaments, like "Juventud de America", and the World Youth Championship for Paraguay. He became a player in the Paraguayan national team since then.

He made his name in the Copa America 1999. He scored three goals in that tournament and he led Paraguay to be in the quarter-finals. The Paraguayans regarded him as a hero and FC Bayern Munich also noticed this young star.

Besides FC Bayern Munich, Real Mardid, a Spanish football club also wanted to sign him. Finally he chose to be in the Bubdesliga. His first year in FC Bayern Munich was quite good, as "Bayern" won the champions of the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.

Unfortunately, for his second year in FC Bayern Munich he had been injured for quite a long time because of his achilles' tendon. However, when he recovered he could still shoot goals for the team. He didn't let us feel disappointed! I hope the season 2001/2002 he can perform even better!
